What would you NEVER have at your wedding?!?

Following on a little from the 'Owl ring bearer' thread, What are you definitely NOT having at your wedding? What do you think is not you, to over done or simply tacky??? I'll start - - animals - chair covers - diamond/crystals on the tables (Just my opinion, mind!)

    Balloons. Balloons balloons balloons balloons.

Expensive favours that people can't use and don't want (We're having mints. Cheep, cheerful, and appreciated!)

Pets. Or animals of any kind.

    Massive dress.

    Table cameras.

    A theme of any kind.

    Choreography.

    Flowers for mothers.

    Money poems.

    Pretentious food.

    Pretention. Period.

My great granny's next door neighbour's niece's brother in law's cousin's stepdaughter who babysat for me once when I was 3.

Have to admit the hotel put balloons in the reception as part of the package in your chosen colour, not maybe something i would have chosen but will keep all the kids quiet hopefully. Everyone has a different opinion but i agree do what you and your oh want, not everyone is gonna like it...tough! x

Don't worry about it. I'll probably get the 2012 Award for Hitcher with the worst taste, if this thread is anything to go by ?

Just a quick query to people who have said money poems... How have you got round asking this (if you wanted money instead of normal gifts?)

We had to make up a nice honeymoon wish poem as we couldnt think of another way to ask...?

We didn't ask for anything (nor did we set up a gift list of any sort to direct any enquiries to). With a completely free choice, we received cash gift from 95% of our guests.

If you want to use a poem, use it! We did Smiley laugh But we knew that our friends and family would ‘get it.’ Most knew we were asking for money anyway as they knew we already owned a house etc. We wanted the money to put towards an extension, so our poem was a bit different!

If you don’t want to use a poem, just have a sentence that says ‘As we’ve already been living together a while, we don’t need any homewares. Instead we would like a contribution towards our honeymoon.’ Not nearly as fun ;-) But gets your message across just as well.

We just put a line in the extra information bit under "gift list" which said something like "we do not have a gift list, and we have already set up a beautiful home together, but if you would like to give us a gift then vouchers towards our honeymoon of a lifetime would be appreciated"

Or write nothing and let them ask.

    Just be honest.

    I would NEVER have:

Casino inspired games ie.e roulette wheel, poker etc

    Magician / caricaturist

    Balloons as centrepieces

    Buffet as wedding breakfast

Hymn's in church which I sang in primary school, i.e. All things bright and beautiful and Give me oil in my lamp....

Tiaras (especially with hair scraped back)

The Alfred Angelo wedding dresses with colours on them

    Artificial flowers

Very pale grey suits for Groom, best men, ushers etc

    Butterfly releases or Doves etc

    Dog's as ring bearer

    Ring pillow

    Receiving line

    - Animals - sort of, don't like the whole animal ring-bearer thing or doves being released, but my horse is extremely special to me (I bred her, and she's been on the scene longer than OH!) so I am hoping to ride her to the church. I'm hoping it's unusual enough not to be tacky!

    - Balloons - love them generally, but not at weddings.

    - Anything pink - just not our thing!

    - Money poems

Can't think of anything else right now but I bet things occur to me! Our evening reception is in a village hall with bog standard chairs and tables so we 'have' to have chair covers really. I see them as a waste of money in venues kitted out for the job though, with nice chairs!
