What's everyone doing for Christmas this year?

*Pugsley*, 15 December, 2013 at 21:16 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 51

OH and I will be at our respective parents.

At this point we find it easier to separate & go to our own parent's than to make one set happy and have the other moan.

Might have to break the mould one year & go away just the two of us one year.

Wondered what everyone else is up to!!

H is working so I'll probably see him for about half an hour before I go to my cousin's for a big family Christmas dinner. There will be about 15 of us, I think! Although that's not as many as the 26 my mam had for Christmas dinner one year!

It's a shame H is working but his family are taking us and his sisters and their families to Whitby for the weekend between Christmas and new year so that should be fab.

He's working again at new year and I currently have no plans. I hate new year so I'm contemplating just staying in on my own and getting some lovely wine all to myself!

H's sisters decided 'jokingly' that we were hosting. In a heated fight discussion H decided yup he really wanted to do that but I didn't want to. In the end I caved, he has now texted his sisters twice last weekend to get an answer but been met with a wall of silence. So now we're a bit in limbo.

We went away last year, it was great, but had massive repurcussions for H's business so we can't do that again.

We're going to my parents for dinner, after the morning at home, with my boys to open their gifts.

My Aunt and her bloke will be joining us, along with more family, and friends after dinner.

We used to go our seperate ways at Xmas too, once we got married we decided it was time to spend it together

Kharv I've spent a New Years in alone rather than going out, it was fine- im not a massive fan of nye either.

We're off to the inlaws in Ireland. We go on the 23rd until the 27th. Then just coming home and chilling out until we return to work- on the 6th! I'm so looking forward to the time off!

Xmas day is just the two of us for various reasons. Boxing Day we are off to my mum and dads and them we are at work on the 27th.

Apparently it's our turn to have the kids on New Year's Eve again....so we will just be at home.

Feeling really crap about this Xmas. Doesn't feel very special tbh.

Just a very quiet one at home with OH and the kids. We have never been able to make plans for Christmas as a) the previous 3 years I've worked in retail and had to work at 6am on boxing day and b) we share Christmas with my ex and do a hand over at 6pm on Christmas day. I'm hoping that next year when they are a little older the ex might agree to me taking them to Scotland for Christmas so spend it with my parents. I'm becoming increasingly aware of the fact that they're not getting any younger and I want my children to experience a traditional family Christmas instead of our totally dysfunctional ones.

We are going to France for Christmas to spend with H's family.

My first Christmas away from home so bit sad about it but know we have to do it. I tried the whole "we could still spend it apart whilst we haven't got kids" but he doesn't agree. My family's Jewish so we don't even do a traditional Christmas, but we have always been together for Christmas day. Makes me sad thoiugh as my Grandpa very ill and frail and always think it could be his last, but equally Pascal's has a grandmother France etc,

I havent been "out out" on NYE in years, and would never do it again. My idea of hell. I much prefer snuggling in with a dvd, great food and a bottle of champagne. This year though my friend who lives ten min walk away having some friends around, which will be lovely.

Christmas Eve is visiting all of Hs family (about eight separate houses full of people!) and seeing all the kids. The car is usually full when were going, you feel like santa! I'm making cakes too so ill ice them in the morning. At night we usually go for a drink in the pub near where I use to live. Everyone from my year and Hs year at school go and it's manic but you see everyone!! Well then go home and snuggle up and watch a Christmas movie and eat chocolate!

Christmas Day is a lazy relaxed morning (my brother and mum live with us so it's just the four of us) we open presents and get ready for going out. We're then going for a Chinese and then when we get home we normally stick our PJs on and watch Christmas movies, open more presents, eat picky party type food and relax. We used to go visit Hs family but we'd end up rushing about and not spending any time at home.

Boxing Day is a roast (again the four of us) and usually visit Hs family at night again (Hs grans birthday) but the way things are I'm not sure we will. Then more cake and food!

The next day is usually taking the tree down and cleaning. Never do anything over new year although 2013 has been crap so I feel like celebrating this year!!

We are off to Toronto to spend Christmas at my mom's house with my two brothers, their wives and babies. Boxing Day we're flying to New York to spend a couple days with my sister and her family in Connecticut, since she's too preggo to fly by then and I didn't want to make it to North America without seeing her and my other nephew.

new years we will be doing 'Christmas' with Ant's family, and we plan to give everyone 1 litre jugs of maple syrup ?

Roseability I know what you mean we normally spend the whole time running round visiting everyone!

This year we've got Christmas eve to ourselves, think we might go out for a few drinks.

Then Christmas morning at ours then over to the SIL's for the rest of the day. It'll be SILs and their husbands plus 2 nieces and 2 nephews and the MIL and her fella. Really looking forward to it.

Then boxing day with FIL and SILs again plus BIL and his family. Then boxing day evening with my family.

No idea what we're doing NYE might go into town

We are off to Thailand to spend our first Christmas in 5 years together. Christmas will be in Chiang Mai and for New Year we will be in Phuket. It also H's 30th birthday on NYE and this year the hotel we have booked is doing a Gala dinner on their private beach so really excited for this one.

Not looking forward to next year when we do have to decide where we have to be.......... I hate Christmas enough without family dramas!!

We are having christmas at my mum's as normal, It's been this way for 30 years for me, H's family were never so big on it, but his brother has kids so his mum goes away to theirs every year. My sister also now lives away from here so I am dreading the day we have to make tough choices about what to do and where to go. I just like it the way it is!

I have avoided my mums house for Christmas since turning 15 and its still the same now. Christmas Day is the worst day of the year for arguments in that house. We are going to OH's parents (as usual) however I do wish we could just be alone for once. My sister wants to spend it with me as well so I'm hoping I can tag her along somewhere in the plans or get out of being at OH's parents.

We are both off Christmas Eve but no plans as yet. If Mr Erin still has Christmas shopping to do then l might scream! I am thinking a relaxing and indulging day, l will make something nice for dinner. Christmas Day l am working from 7am until about 2.30pm then driving to Kent to see Mr Erin's oldest sister. We are then having dinner and hopefully lots of alcohol! Not sure about what is happening on Boxing Day yet.

We are spending Christmas Eve and Christmas Day just the two of us in our flat again like last year and I can't wait! We go to see both sets of parents either side of christmas so we are going up to my Dad's this weekend then to OH's parents on boxing day.

As it is our first year in a house big enough to have family over I decided to offer to host this year,

My siblings and I have for many years split ourselves between parents and inlaws on christmas day and boxing day. This year we have OH's folks on Christmas day for the full works. (quite nervous about cooking this TBH) and then my family descend on boxing day. I am only doing a buffet though.

It will be nice not to have to pack the car up and travel around the country but I will miss the quiet of the evening alone though.

Don't really know yet as its BT Ref dependant. All depends on when Baby Bass decides to show up! It will definitely be me, H & my mum at our house. Possibly with baby, if not I'll be going into hospital on boxing day to be induced! How festive!

Waking up and opening the bunnies gifts, then I go to my parents for dinner, he goes to his mums.

Then in the late afternoon evening we'll go home and spend it together, snuggled with the bunnies and Tink. Smiley smile

Dreading Christmas to be honest. First one without dad and it will be horrendous.

We will all do the best we can for the children and also for dad as we know he will be saying "for gods sake, pull yourselves together"!!!

Will be at home with OH first thing to open presents, then to OH's mum for more presents etc. We will then all go to mums and spend Christmas Day and Boxing Day all together as a family.

NYE we are off to Edinburgh for Hogmanay with your best man and his wife.

It's the inlaws turn to have us for Christmas Day this year, which I really don't mind because we have a fantastic day, she makes the meanest roast, and goes to so much effort, we are staying the night and then will leave Boxing day early doors to make the 200 mile jaunt home to spend the week with my family and xmas day number 2 at my sisters on Boxing Day. We are spending New Years Eve at my Aundts and Uncles who always have a party and on the 1st we will drive back down, sis bro in law and nieces and nephews will be following us and staying at ours untilt he 5th Jan, I am so looking forward to Christmas this year, just spending proper quality time with our families it means everything to me.

This Saturday we are having our 1st Christmas with all my step family as all of us 'kids' are elsewhere on actual Christmas Day. My Dad has decided we are having an Australian Christmas so heating is being cranked up and the BBQ is being fired up. Looking forward to it as it is the first time we have all spent a somewhat 'proper Christmas' together.

H is working until 5pm on Christmas Eve so our evening we will be spent eating our traditional slow cooked Christmas ham, egg & chips, then watching Christmas films and eating chocolates. H will probably have to sneak off to wrap up my presents too!

On Christmas day we have my Mum and Sister and H's parents all coming to us for Christmas dinner. Is nice that our families all get on and we don't have to all spend Christmas days separately.

On Boxing Day we will go over to H's parents to spend some time with his Brother and Sister In Law and eat more yummy food.

Our Christmas also involves lots of dog walking, present ripping and puppy sleeping as she gets tired out by all the people and presents!

We're at OH's parents this year for xmas day. Not looking forward to it as they're a bit boring and his mum is not a very good cook (aunt bessies roast potatoes - yuck!)

We'll be seeing my bro and nephews in the morning before we head around there though. I'm not missing out on seeing them open their pressies.

Boxing day will be sales shopping early morning then round to my parents for the day.

We alternate parents each year. I imagine that when we have a baby, the first Christmas will have to be a big one with both sets of parents. Neither set will want to miss that!

Christmas day we'll wake up at oh's, have brecky and watch his brothers open their presents. Then we're off to mine for the rest of the day which will be me, oh and my mum and dad. Then boxing day we'll head back to oh's. We're lucky that they only live half an hour apart so it's easy to see both sets of parents and we take it in turn each year to go to each others. I have the most time off at Christmas that I've had in years so we're planning to go for a nice meal out and shopping between Christmas and new year. Then new years eve my friend is having a party with about 15 of us and we all going to play on the Wii, play board games, eat and get drunk.

    This.

Right down to the telling us off part too. Hope you all manage to have the best time you can do. ?

We're off to the Inlaws on Christmas day for lunch, which will be delicious and lovely. Then Boxing Day is my Mums birthday so off to her house - it'll be exactly 6 months since my Dad died so she's definately not looking forward to it, hopefully will be able to make sure she has a reasonable day anyway. We've also spoilt her rotten.

No plans for NYE, we're not fussed about it. Normally a nice meal, a film and a bottle of fizz.
