What's everyone doing for Christmas this year?

OH and I will be at our respective parents. At this point we find it easier to separate & go to our own parent's than to make one set happy and have the other moan. Might have to break the mould one year & go away just the two of us one year. Wondered what everyone else is up to!!

We have my family round this Friday for 'christmas day' as it's easier (dad/I both work over christmas and nan has dialysis). Christmas eve, H's family are coming over in the evening.

Christmas Day I'm working till 12 then going to the in laws for lunch. Will come home early evening and have it to ourselves I think!

Big hugs, it will be hard but try and focus on the fun christmas memories you have of him. I remember the first Christmas without my dad deciding who would take on his silly traditions and responsibilities! He was always the one with a bin liner clearing up te wrapping paper the minute it was off a parcel! It make the day a bit more bareable being able to remember and smile!!

    ?

Answering the topic.... We will go to OH's parents as per usual when we don't fly across the ocean to go to my parents.

Going for almost a week, so will be spoiled rotten and dreading the scales when I come back!

Hugs to all those that need them this Christmas ?

On Christmas Eve, we'll just be pottering around, I'll get all the veg prepared, and then going out for a curry in the evening, as is tradition for me (and now H). I was going to go to midnight mass but I don't like the service at the church near us, so will just be home instead.

On Christmas Day, I am cooking for H, and my parents. H's parents are going over to BIL's to spend the day with them and SIL's family. Me, H and my parents will then join them in the evening for a drink or two and some nibbles.

Boxing Day, we'll have dinner at PIL's although I will be antisocial in the evening and watch the football.

NYE, we have a few friends coming over here, although I can't really be bothered to be honest!

Sending lots of hugs from me too...

We are heading up to Stoke on Christmas Eve to stay with the ILs and then we're off to my sister's in Lincolnshire on Boxing Day. Poor H will have to do all the driving as my car is kaput again and I won't can't drive his as it is too big! We are then coming home on the 27th as I can't bear more than one night on my sister's sofa bed (think smaller than a double bed that sags in the middle with a paper thin mattress and springs that dig in the back and you will get the gist why)!

We are exactly the same as this at the moment! Thinking we'll need to stop it at some point! OH was going to stay at ours this year because I'm hosting it but that was only decided late on and his mum already thought he was coming there and I knew how disappointed she would be so I told him to still go. He won't be leaving until 10am though so we'll have a Christmas breakfast. Then I'm making all my family Christmas dinner, they'll be joining me at about 2pm so I have a bit of time on my own to stress out/do the cooking! I have from Christmas Day to New Year's Day off work and I can't wait!

Hugs to everyone having a difficult Christmas this year

We must be the only people who don't run around seeing different sets of parents on Christmas Day haha! We have always spent Christmas Day at ours. My dad usually comes over sometimes with my brother and last year we had the in laws over too.

This year however, dad is off to southport to spend it with his dad, and FIL is working so MiL is off to her sisters, so, H and I are going away Christmas Eve - Boxing Day! No washing up. Bliss.

? Hugs to all who need them over Christmas.

I have not done a family Christmas in years, I like to have a rest over Christmas and not feeling like I need a holiday to get over it and my mother just makes it so much more stressful than it needs to be. It a shame in a way as I love to cook and host so don't find any of that side of it stressful.

Similar to Poland (as Flora already mentioned) Latvia celebrates on Christmas Eve so we usually spend Christmas eve doing festive baking sausages rolls, piragi, honey roast gammon etc. We usually watch festive TV in the evening with a few drinks and at Midnight we usually exchange presents and crack open the Champagne and continue drinking and chatting until it its much later than either of us realise (I think we went to bed at 5:30am last year)

Christmas day wake up either still drunk or incredibly hungover so start the day off with hair of the dog (either more champagne or bloody Mary) smoked salmon etc for breakfast.

The rest of the day is usually filled with food, TV and booze. We not going to bother with a roast this year as the last 2 years I have cooked one just for tradition but neither of us have particularly fancied it.

We are going out for a 'posh' champagne Brunch this year though on Boxing day so shall have a roast then.

Christmas Day all OHs family are coming to ours so I'm attempting to cook for 16!! Eek! My parents don't feel like 'doing' Christmas this year, understandably so mum is planning on helping out at a place doing meals for the homeless. They'll be coming to ours for Boxing Day though.

I think friends are coming to ours for NYE which I don't really feel like as I might get a bit emotional but they'll understand and it'll probably turn out to be better than I expect

We always end up running around over christmas, never really stopping long enough to enjoy everything! We usually spend Christmas Day with one set of parents, then leave Boxing Day to see the other set. And always get caught in horrendous traffic. It seems no matter how much I suggest changing plans, I'm wrong!

this year H is working nights on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so we're at home. H was worried I'd be on my own on Christmas Day, and so I've invited my dad over. He's arriving Christmas Eve, we're going out to lunch, and then watching films. Christmas Day, we'll get up for when H returns from night shift, allow him to sleep, play a few games, watch some TV, get the dinner ready (I'm doing them roast beef) and wait for H to get up around 4. Then we'll do presents and have dinner.

h will go to work and I will travel back with my dad, to mum's house. Have an evening there with mum, step dad, gran, grandad, aunt, uncle, brother and niece and H will join us Boxing Day morning. We will have Christmas again and eat a lot of food. On 27th we're travelling down to the in laws, where we will stay until 30th and come home for H to work NYE (early shift). I'm off to mum's NYE, and H will join me after work (about 6), where we will eat a lot, drink a lot, and my parents are having friends over and fireworks in the garden for the kids (my other niece will be there by then, and brother's&d new girlfriend).

then I will collapse and relax!! Cannot wait until we have kids as I am going to refuse and tell everyone to come to us!

? for those whose Christmas will be difficult & sad.

I'm an only child, so my parents are coming to us about 10.30sh and we're hosting Christmas Dinner. They did Christmas Dinner for 10yrs so now it's our turn to pay it back as it were.

H's sisters will either text or phone during the morning and, if she feels like it, his mother will phone.

We'll eat, walk the dogs, open presents and then just snooze around, unless H inflicts Trivial Pursuit or Monopoly on my parents. We love board games, but my Dad is not a board game player, he hates them with a passion.

I was going to be on my lonesome! But now I am going with OH to his Mum's for lunch, the am will see us walk my dog to my mum's exchange presents and then we'll head to OH's mums and then finally back to ours to relax!

New year we've got a party to go to which should be fun.
