Whats the "done thing" when booking a venue

MrsRainbowtobe, 17 January, 2012 at 19:51 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hiya,

I haven't booked yet but we know where it's going to be and have had all the prices from them for wedding breakfast etc.

Now is it the done thing to accept their prices or haggle a bit and try get a better deal?

I am so British when it comes to these things lol

We didn't 'haggle' as such when it came to the price- ours is a package so we paid what the asking price was but asked for changes to the menu- having steak and ale pie as an option and also the welcome drinks- changing some from winter pimms to bottle of beer.

depends on the venue really- if it's broken down into cost for certain things e.g. venue hire, food, drinks etc. maybe worth giving it a go- I would imagin a venue is more likly to budge if you're getting married on a non-peak day e.g. winter, midweek- a venue is less likly to give a discount for say a Saturday in June when they know it's likly someone else will book and pay the asking price.

I didnt bother as I'm bank holiday in August, but a mate of mine is getting married on a Friday and asked for a discount and got £500 knocked off.

I just accepted the price they quoted, but there's no harm in asking I suppose!

I just accepted it but wish I'd haggled a bit now. I was just in the excited stage when we booked our venue and hadn't (stupidly) really thought about how costs would mount up. Every little bit off helps and the worst they can do is say no. I have haggled over other things since and have been successful.

We didn't haggle at all - I don't think our venue would have shifted at all; I know myself very well, too, and I don't take well to rejection and had I asked and not 'got' I'd probably have held it against the venue and it might've taken the shine off it a bit for me. I'm ever so grown up like that!

We are getting married on a Friday and this made it a bit cheaper - although we didn't have to ask for this, it was listed as costing slightly less on a Friday. Some people have said it's easier to go for 'added extras' rather than knocking them down on price, so maybe see if they will throw in wedding night accommodation or something for free if you do fancy trying your luck.

We are getting married on a saturday in June but OH still asked if they were willing to budge and they gave us 500 pounds off ceremony room hire and every guest room with 10% off so definately worth asking.
