Suite at the Dorchester if you have a spare several thousand?

What's your definition of luxurious though? You could spend absolutely silly money just to be showy, but spend a lot less and still get something gorgeous. What kind of vibe do you want? Classic or modern etc?

If I were you I'd wait until the last possible second and see what's on Laterooms. You can get some really bargainous five-star places, especially the ones that are more corporate, although as Flump says that's not neccessarily what you want.

I love the Dorchester and Claridges. For something more intimate, Hazlitts is supposed to be fabulous.

I agree with Flump though- you need to think about budget, area and vibe. No point us all suggesting the Dorchester if it's over budget, nor the Ritz if you're looking for somewhere relaxed etc.

St Martin's Lane hotel is uber stylish but the rooms are a bit small and all their techy lighting means it takes you 25 mins to turn on the bathroom light... BUUUUUUT... it is still a treat and you can have a drink/dinner in Asia de Cuba downstairs...

Four Seasons Park Lane gets good reviews from the guys who stay there from work.

I love the Dorchester, fab suites rooms and service. Also high on the list are the Millenium Mayfair and The Sanderson.

For boutique I highly recommend here https://www.laterooms.com OR you could try https://www.parklanemewshotel.net

It's been quite a long time since I've stayed in a hotel in London, but when I worked there, my (very fussy) US boss used to stay in the Knightsbridge hotel:

It's really lovely (all the hotels in the Firmdale chain IMO), with decent sized rooms, good locations, and impeccable service. Boutiquey-too. We used to have all our meetings there, often over a fab breakfast with room service.

Claridges, the berkely or one aldwych. Although staff at one aldwych not nice. Was not impressed particularly with the savoy.

we got upgraded at claridges- bliss.

When I can conscionably justify flashing that kind of cash, I'll treat myself to a night at The Gore. It looks sumptuous and not remotely corporate like most luxury hotels.

This is where a Hitcher tells me they've stayed there and it's all a bit shabby and threadbare, instantly shattering my illusions. ?

Don't bother with the Mayfair BTW. We stayed there on our wedding night but since then its become some bizarre PR hub where they give celebtrities free rooms in return for them being photographed coming out. weird.

    The charlotte street hotel?

We stayed at The Tower in May, I really liked it and the location was fab, we had a room overlooking Tower Bridge and there are loads of nice restaurants nearby and lovely to walk down the river on a hot sunny day!

Ok, I've spent the past ten minutes googling for a hotel I stayed in about 9 years ago. It was 5 star, central london, and ultra modern but I can't remember the blinking name. The only thing I can remember is that they had Ren toilettries in the rooms. If I can remember I can recommend that one!! Sorry, not much help.

I stayed in Lanesborough for my wedding, which was fab, but it's more than 200 a night.

To confuse you further, it is now called the Andaz Hotel ?

Sophie's suggestion of booking is a good one. When we did a "staycation" a few years ago we booked into Threadneedles Hotel for a weekend - it is really quiet at the weekend as it is in the heart of the City (so lots of deals to be had!), but easy to get to the South Bank and more central London.

I stayed at The Athenaeum a couple of years ago, it was lovely. Very romantic, not corporate at all and a very personal service. And amazing breakfast! www.athenaeumhotel.com

    The Rookery is gorgeous

I'd also wait until closer to the time and have a look at laterooms, wotif and hotelclub. You'll pretty well always be able to get a deal.
