Whats wrong with 2nd verse of this poem!I cant work it out

katgreene, 6 December, 2012 at 22:40 Posted on Planning 0 7

As well as a guest book,

We thought for a change;

We’d have something different

When signing your name.

This is our tree

With no leaves on.

So we’d like all our guests

To help make it grow

It’s easy, it’s fun,

Grab an ink pad and then:

Make a leaf with your finger,

And then sign with a pen.

When everyone’s finished,

and you’ve all been so clever.

Our tree will be hung,

And kept forever.

It's the only verse that doesn't have a rhyme/half rhyme. How about:

    This is our tree

    With no leaves on.

So we’d like all our guests

To help make it grow strong

    Just thought of another option:

    This is our tree

    With no leaves or twigs

So we’d like all our guests

    To help it grow big

    How about:

    This is our tree

    With no leaves on show

So we’d like all our guests

    To help make it grow

Agree with the rhyme scheme point, also the 5th line has only 4 syllables which makes it sound unfinished as the first verse lines have 5-7 syllables. It also interrupts the rhythm of the poem for the same reason.

    Add two syllables.

    This is our wedding tree

Although it is broken into 4 line verses if you read it they are really two line.

I'd much prefer a simple request. I acknowledge that I am poem-hater (of this sort of verse) and think they come over as contrived and a bit false. Hence I'd rather you just said "Please leave a thumbprint on our tree to make us a keepsake of our special day" or similar.

I don't think I'd be able to read beyond the first couple of lines! Just my opinion.
