What's your new surname going to be?

EllsBells243, 28 June, 2012 at 22:02 Posted on Planning 0 91

Evening hitchers!

A bit of a random post, but wondered what your married name is going to be?

My new surname will be Kerry, which I love! I can't wait to take my H2B's name, and will be so proud to be Mrs Kerry ? can you tell I'm feeling v.loved up today lol

Is anyone not planning on taking their man's surname?

Xxx

I will be Mrs Raithby. I am a little "meh" about it, as it took me so long to get my butt into gear and revert to my maiden name after my first marriage that I almost dont want to let it go. It also irks me that H2Bs first wife hasnt relinquished his name and is still Mrs Raithby in name.

I'm going to be Stevenson. Its going to be soooo weird to be called something different! Especially as Mrs Stevenson is his mum! And I don't want to be remotely similar to his mum!! I would never consider not changing my name as I'm very traditional, but I was trying to persuade him to add my surname to his to make it double-barrelled and I think it sounds really nice (and other people agree!) but he's having none of it! :-(

I'll be Mrs Rogers. Not half as nice and unique as my maiden name. Proud to be the next in a long line of mad Mrs Rogers though!

I'm going to be a Mrs Coles.

After the wedding my next mission is to stop him calling our unborn children Ann and Barney.

If you'd asked me ten years ago, I would have been desperate to get rid of my surname (Lovett) in favour of something - anything - else! Now, I have come to love it (no pun intended - you can see why I hated it at one point). So, I have decided that I shall keep my name. I won't object to being called Mrs Hulme, but legally I shall stay Lovett. That's quite normal over here, anyway. Women don't change their names when they get married, but if they have kids, the kids take both the parents' names. I think it makes a lot more sense!

But then what happens when two kids with two surnames have kids? Do their kids get four surnames?!

I will definitely be changing my surname, very excited about it, I'll be Mrs Musto. Although I do think my new name sounds really stupid. My name is very English and Musto is Italian so it just sounds weird together. I'm sure I'll get used to it.

In Spanish countries, the naming tradition goes as follows:

    Girl Dad-surname Mum-surname + Boy Dad-surname Mum-surname = Baby Boy's-Dad-surname Girl's-Dad-surname.

So the paternal surnames always win through!

I will be a Mrs Green and I'm really looking forward to not have to spell my name out EVERY time I speak to a call centre on someone new on the phone! I've never liked my surname, and had thought of changing it to my mum's maiden name several times. I'm happy to take my OH name, plus if we double barrelled our names when it came to kids...well poor things would be all I could say!!!

I am going to be Mrs Goffe.

I used to hate my sirname, but have grown fond of it now, so will miss it. A lot of people call me by it, and I doubt that will stop.

Still happy to be joining the ever growing number of Mrs Goffe's in the family though.

I'm going to be Mrs Beech. I hate my surname at the moment, so I am very happy to be taking OH's. The only problem is, my FMIL and I have very similar first names, only 1 letter difference, so that is going to be fun!

Im going to be Mrs Barrie. I'm not that fussed about the name itself but I am very excited about being the 'Mrs' and all of us (we have two children) having the same name, like a "proper"(!) family Smiley smile. I will miss my maiden name though so might still use it at work.

My OH is Welsh, so unsurprisingly my new surname is going to be Jones. I think when I was younger I probably would have hoped for something a bit more exciting as my current surname is also quite boring, but I'm looking forward to becoming Mrs Jones. It also makes naming our kids easy as pretty much anything sounds good with Jones.

Mine should be Corney but in total quandry about changing it as there's only brother, nephew and I that I know of with my maiden name. On the other hand would be good to have same surname as H2B and our boys. Help me decide!!

WSS. So, if if Miss Jones married Mr Smith, they would stay as Jones and Smith (although she could on occasion be referred to as Jones de Smith - Jones of the house Smith).

They have a kid, Eric, who becomes Eric Jones Smith - you'll see in most forms you have to fill in in Spanish cultures they have two boxes for surnames for this reason, because everyone has two!)

Then, Eric meets and marries Jane Green Black. (Mother's name Green father's name Black)

Their kid, Emma, is called Emma Smith Black. So, eventually, the paternal names take precedence.

I just think it's a nice way to say that each person entering into the marriage keeps their own identity (I know, "What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.") but when they create a new life, the child takes both names as a symbol that it is the consequence of a merging between the two families.

Personally, I'm not having any kids, so it doesn't really matter. I just like my last name :o)

Mine will be Hough, which is supposed to be pronounced 'Huff' but commonly mispronounced as 'Ho' 'Hogey' 'Hue' 'Hog' you get the idea...

Basically may as well get used to being called Mrs Ho!
