What's your OH's most annoying Habit?

MrsStanleyToBe, 15 October, 2015 at 10:19 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 25

Good Morning Hitchers

As I was getting ready for work this morning, I went into our spare room and as usual had a wave of horror run through me!!! because the bed was strewn with my OH's clothes, he doesn't believe in putting his clothes in the laundry basket. Because he's a chef, he changes into whites and so he says that he only wears clothes for a few hours a day. But rather than hang them back up in the wardrobe, he decides to hang them over the spare bed and then get clean from the wardrobe the next day.

Arrrggghhhhh, it drives me insane I think I'd rather constantly have the washing machine on then have to follow him and hang his clothes up for him Smiley smile

What's you OH's most annoying habit that you could easily live without? x

Mine does the same too ?

It often looks like he's just evaporated or something because he'll leave an entire outfit in a pile wherever he's stopped!

The most annoying thing though is his lack of urgency about everything! I'm a "get things" done kind of person, whereas he is a "can't be bothered" or "in a minute" guy. Which nine times out of ten means I end up doing whatever it was that needed doing, myself. It's also the reason we still have a blind sitting in the kitchen that's been there for about 18 months waiting to go up. Out of principle, i've just left it!

I'm convinced it's a conscious choice to be like that though, because professionally with work he's amazing and is always right on whatever needs doing!

Must be a man thing? Mines exactly the same. Clothes everywhere and no idea if they are supposed to be going in the wash basket or the wardrobe. Not just clothes tho. Nothing gets put away. Every single flat space gets covered with things. And not in a pile! Oh no it needs to all be laid out in a line lol. At age 50 he's also incapable of closing drawers. Surely it takes more effort to leave all drawers half an inch open than to shut it all the way closed?

I spend most of my time going round the house putting stuff in piles and closing all drawers as I pass them lol. Remind me..... Why am I marrying him lol !!

Hes also a very professional person with his business yet a 'will get round to it' sort of person at home.

Ahhh Drives me insane but his good points outweigh the bad.

Breaking wind while we eat... in fact, it's worse when he's finished and I'm still eating! :-(

Ewww ha ha. I'm probably getting off lightly with this though. I can't think of anything else he does that annoys me! :-)

So this doesn't improve with age then? I can tell if he's been cooking off stuff, because every cupboard door is wide open, drawers open - and bloody light switches, again he has the ability of turn them on just not off.

He's quite good actually, I'm the messy one and have several different piles of stuff that confuses him.

Sounds like I'm adding nothing new to this list: general untidiness. Particularly clothes, but just generally not putting things back where they came from!

OH has loads of hobbies, and he leaves bits and pieces of what he's currently doing all over the house. That and he has a habit of putting youtube videos on while we're watching tv so you can hear both at once, which is a real bugbear of mine. Oh, and when he's been cooking he doesn't wipe down the surfaces afterwards!

Mine also leaves his clothes laying around, worse is he always takes his socks off in the front room then I find them days later down the back of the settee ?

He is also the most indecisive person in the world (I'm indecisve too but it still anoys me). We once went out at 5.00pm to go for food, we came back at 9.30pm with a bag of chips beacuse it took us that long to decide on where to eat that no where was still serving!

Mr Ash has a load of great habits. He cooks, cleans, irons, does the washing, dishes, vacuuming, runs the bath, mows the lawn, picks up the dog poo (poo patrol), etc. However, I cannot for love nor money get him into the habit of wiping down the kitchen counter.

    I'll take it.

Eating too quickly, which means noisy eating. I hate it!!!! Makes me feel sick. I tell him to slow down all the time.

Lol. My lovely husband has lots of great qualities, but a few I would happily ditch! Noisy eater (and yet gets annoyed with other noisy eaters! In his defence he does have a dodgy jaw) mine also does the clothes where he takes them off thing, he says its so he doesn't disturb me e.g. he takes stuff off in the living room so as not to wake me up, but then if I don't pick them up they stay there indefinitely! He moans if I talk over the TV or if I have it on too loud when he's on the xbox, but turns his games up so I can't hear what I'm watching! He gets annoyed with me for really stupid reasons, like this morning, when I told him winding the window down wasn't helping get rid of the condensation, he snapped at me that he'd take the brunt of an accident if I didn't see the car! Oh, and he's another one who will not do things, we still don't have any wedding pics on the walls because he hasn't put them up!! But his good points still outweigh all that, somehow ;-)

I'm the hard one to live with - I fully accept that. i'm definitely an "I'll get round to it" sort of person. But he's not perfect either. He's a great one for just doing his washing - so even if the basket is overflowing he will still just do his. Even if that means a half load for his shirts. And on the odd occasion he washes something for me or the wee one he makes such a point of it. I could strangle him haha! He also leaves dirty dishes in the sink - usually in slimy water. It's revolting! Even if the bunker is clean and there's plenty of space I will still find a manky plate in gross water in the sink.

But then I like to leave little piles of paper that I'm totally "dealing with" lying about. I also cleaned the shelf in the bathroom out and removed 10 empty bottles of shampoo that had just been lying there. We are also big gamers and I use my laptop so I've always got cables lying about that are connected or my laptop on charge 24/7.

I like to think we balance each other out hahahaha!

Oh I have another that I forgot about until last night. So did the food shopping, and in fairness we don't have a drive and he always tries to carry most of it to the front door, very nice of him. However, I am usually doing the unpacking and putting all the food away, while he's kicked off his shoes, sits on the sofa, then when I am 90% done, he'll wander into the kitchen to ask if I need help ?

Which reminds me that my OH sits on the sofa while I cook dinner. Doesn't offer to help or set the table etc. (in fairness we used to cook together till we moved to somewhere with a small kitchen) however the minute I put the first lot of stuff on the table he jumps up asking if I want a glass of water with it and then is in the kitchen in my way so I can't bring the rest out. I mean he can't get off the sofa yet is sat down eating before I've even got mine on the table lol.

However he always clears away and loads the dishwasher.

however he never wipes sides down so I have to go in after him anyway.

well we can't have everything can we?

Aww what would we do without them ehh Smiley smile

So many that I can also relate to, Bliss Balloons, my one does the socks down the sofa too and because he's on his feet all day they absolutely stink and are rock hard bleughh! he does the plates left in slimy water in the washing up bowl too and light switches. He leaves after me in the morning so I go home at Lunch there's bedroom lights, downstairs toilet light on, his excuse is that it doesn't cost a lot - doesn't mean you're incapable of switching them off Smiley smile

A couple of others, he'll load the washing machine and put it on, but is incapable of unloading it, so I go to put a new load on, see there's already some in there and have to wash it again because of the smell! we're in a battle at the moment over getting a tumble dryer because I'm sure he'd be able to at least unload and load into another without any effort. He says that tumble dryers use too much electricity, but I say that the amount of times I'm having to rewash clothes is just as bad Smiley smile Also the ironing board, admittedly he does most of the ironing so I can't really moan. But we have a massive manly Ironing board, that I struggle to dismantle, he irons his whites every morning and I come home at lunch and the board is still set up in the middle of the living room! surely it only takes seconds for him to put it back!

Blimey I feel like I've had a counselling session Smiley smile but like you all say his good qualities massively outweigh the little niggles ... still it doesn't hurt to have a moan every now and then!

Have a good Weekend All x

Oh yes mine leaves the iron and ironing board out also. As you say a small price to pay for him doing his own ironing.

Turning lights off would pay for the tumble drier lol!

Mine doesn't leave lights on, he's obsessive about turning them off. Even if it's dark and I'm reading. Grrr.

Oh yeah the ironing board, his excuse is the iron is still hot. How does that stop you dismantling the board bit? He also likes to "soak" plates, etc. So much that recently stopped using the washing up bowl and use the tap.

I don't know the efficiency or anything but would a washing machine/tumble dryer combination thing, be better because then it'd be dry at least, or do they use the same amount?

I don't know how much they use I'm afraid. I now have a combination one as smaller house so I don't have room for a tumble drier as well unless it's in the garage. Years ago I had separate. Downside of a combination is you can't wash and dry at the same time. I could have a second load washing while the first is drying in separate machines. If you have the room get separate I say. I'm getting a separate one for the garage I think.

My husband is incapable of putting his pants and socks in the wash basket. Every night he removes the ones he's wearing and puts them next to (but never in) the wash basket. It drives me insane!

He also rarely puts the toilet seat and lid down.

He does most of the cooking because he likes it but uses every item in the kitchen when doing so. Why anyone would need to use three pans and six knives to make spag bol amongst others, I will never know! We don't have a dishwasher and I end up having to do everything by hand myself.

He can never remember when the bins go in and out so I have to do it. He never empties the bins in the house and never sorts the cat's litter tray.

Remind me why I married him again?

(Unfortunately I am told my habits are just as annoying!)

Hands down, his memory. He never remembers ANYTHING. i cannot trust him to make plans with other people, because he will just forget. drives me batty. The rest are all niggles really:

my biggest pet peeve is towels. he will leave his wet towel on the floor, then use a fresh one the next day. then leave that one on the floor. he's always got at least 3 towels on the go at once, drives me mad.

his side of the bed is nearest to the window (we have a narrow room so i never go round to his side of the bed cos of the way its configured). he just piles his clothes on the floor on his side of the bed, then i have to remember to check down there when i do laundry.

he never loads or unloads the dishwasher. he will clear dirty plates, then leave them on the counter on top of the dishwasher. why does he do this?! it takes no more effort to open the dishwasher and pop them in.

we have a worktop saver in front of the kettle, specifically for making cups of tea on. he NEVER uses it. instead he makes tea on the counter above the fridge, so i'm forever wiping up spilled tea from the side.

I feel guilty that I get annoyed by my OH, but it's the fact that he never finishes a job.

He does most of the housework, but he'll do the laundry and leave the empty basket in hallway to the laundry rather than taking it back to the bathroom, or do the vacuuming but just stop at the end point and leave the vacuum cleaner where it is with the flex trailing all over the room, or the one that really bugs me is doing the dishes but leaving the sink full of water. I HATE finding it later and having to plunge my hand into a sink of greasy cold water to pull the plug, but I also feel guilty complaining because these are all such little things compared with the fact that he's done the work in the first place.

He also loses his wallet, keys and phone several times a day. We are always looking for them, usually just when we need to leave the house!

Probably his indecisiveness. Any dates/weekends away/holidays I end up deciding where to go and organising most of it - I could give him a shortlist of 2 places to pick between, and he refuses to make a decision! I think I'm going to have to turn dictator for the wedding - the only thing he's said he wants so far is to come in on a helicopter, and I can't tell is he's being serious or not!

I read this earlier and wasn't going to reply, but I've just gone upstairs and he has done one of the things I find most annoying! Our bathroom has no window, just an extractor fan which you switch on outside the door. OH is incapable of turning it on and off! If he has a shower it's off unless I've showered first, but I've just gone up and it is whirring away to itself. Drives me mad! That and not cleaning out the bath when he's had a shower.

Oh, and the other thing is he'll offer to make a sandwich and then come up and ask me in exactly what order I would like all the fillings in my sandwich. That being said, at least he offers and he does loads of the housework. And I know that I am super frustrating for leaving piles of 'stuff' everywhere!
