When are your Christmas decorations going up?

bliss_balloons , 24 November, 2015 at 13:09 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 22

I was thinking of getting ours up next weekend as it will be three weeks before but I'm half tempted to do them this weekend (H thinks that's way too early though).

As a kid, I didn't put mine up until around the 22nd. Nowadays I go for the Sunday around 10 days before Christmas, so probably the 13th this year - we've created our own tradition of a watching a movie like Elf or Love Actually, drinking mulled cider, eating party food and doing the decs. We're not having a tree this year but we will have some other bits and bobs up.

I don't have a lot of room for secs but what I do use normally about ten days before. It's oh birthday mid dec and he likes Christmas stuff to go up after. Well that never happens lol !!

This year we will be busy so I'm not putting any up. We have no visitors etc this year also. We leave uk 3 jan to marry 6 jan so Xmas is pretty much cancelled this year.

Like Jayne, my OH's birthday is mid December, so he absolutely bans anything christmas' until after his "special day" but he makes up for this, by cooking oranges, cinnamon sticks and biscuits for the tree.

So ours will probably go up around the weekend of the 19th - the later the better really with 4 Mischievous cats around - I still find Christmas decs under furniture in June :0) x

I'm not allowed until it's December, but last year managed to convince him that the Sunday was a good idea because I can see what I'm doing. We're both quite clumsy so thought the added aid of sunlight was a safe bet.

He's also banned real trees after one following October finding pine needles in the car, whoops. So need to check the trees alright and the cat hasn't completely destroyed the decorations. I do love buying new decorations but we don't have the space for most Smiley sad

We're off to a Christmas market on the 6th so think we will go get our tree that afternoon, make it a festive day Smiley smile

When I lived with my parents their decorations went up just a few days before Christmas so I like to do it fairly early to make the most of it. I don't think I'd do it in November though!

Similar to what others have said, my son's birthday is the 1st December so I like to keep that separate. Tree goes up on the 2nd though Smiley smile

Usually I demand the house be done on December 1st BUT it isn't going to happen this year.

We're having friends visit this weekend so can't get the tree until NEXT weekend because we need to move the Armchair from the lounge into the room they'll be staying in.

SO we'll probably decorate on the 5th Smiley smile

If it wasn't for our friends visiting, there's a very real chance we would have already decorated haha

We started putting our decs up at school today! The kids are off this rest of this week for teaching training days and when they come back on Monday it will be three weeks infill the holidays (and the decs have to come back down).

Not sure when we will get around to putting them up at home, final wedding preps will probably take up most of our free time but will definitely put some up, even if it's on Christmas eve lol. I do have my advent calendar ready though :-)

Usually the first weekend in December but might leave it a bit later this year as I'm usually sick of them by Christmas.

A couple of years ago we moved house on 21st December. I hadn't planned on putting decorations up but I got excited when we came across the tree as we moved everything. I put it up before we unpacked anything else!

Sorry, RomanticEmeralds , still not sure how to quote :0)

He slices them and bakes them really low for ages and then we pierce a bit of red or green ribbon through the top to hang them from the tree :0) x

What a good idea, thanks for that! Bet it makes the house smell nice as well. For some reason I was imagining whole oranges lol

It does smell gorgeous and with the cinnamon sticks, it really gets you in the mood for Christmas - luckily to stop them going off, he has to put a tonne of salt in the biscuits, so stops any temptation ? x

That definitely deserves Christmas points. Our fayre is also this weekend so we'll be popping by at some point. Also hoping to finish all my Christmas shopping at the same time.

I decided we're not putting them up this year (a tad hypercritical of me as I called him Scrooge when I first met him for not decorating for Xmas and now it's me saying no haha) I'm working Xmas and we fly the day after Boxing Day so we figured we didn't want the stress of putting them down Boxing Day when it will be manic seeing family and oacking as if is. They are up at work though so I am getting my dose of Xmas!

We put ours up last night. A thought occurred (I know careful) why not flash some decs? So people have done their tree etc can flash it? Although now I think of it, is it something of interest?

Mine will most likely go up this weekend although I've got to find time to go buy a tree. We get a real one every year from stockeld park it's a fab experience going and picking your own tree I love it and it really gets me in the Christmas mood.
