When did it all start to feel real for you?

Arquard, 5 September, 2010 at 12:01 Posted on Planning 0 17

I had an 'ARGH OMG I'M GETTING MAAARRIIIIEEEED!' moment yesterday when I paid for my dress. Up until that point, none of it had really felt like it was really going to happen - even when we went to view our venue, booked it, gave our notice to the registrar or ordered our STDs. It all felt like a bit of a fantasy until I got the dress and now it's hit me like a tonne of bricks. EEEP!

It's starting to feel a bit real for me now too! I went dress shopping yesterday - my sister was nagging me to go for ages. We get married in February and had a mild panic in the shop yesterday when they said they needed 6 months to order a dress in I liked....the wedding is less than 6 months away!!!

We've paid deposits and stuff for the venue, but not got round to organising anything else, I don't even know where to start!!!! ?

I'm getting married in March and only just started planning too, not ordered my dress yet but doing that this weekend!

As for feeling real, I don't think its hit me yet! I've been married before although I married abroad so this is my first time planning a wedding, but for me the most important thing is make sure you put as much effort into your MARRIAGE as you do into planning your WEDDING, it's much much more important, without the relationship there will be no wedding! x

I'm on a bit of a downer at the mo, not sure why. Might be cos the venues are both booked and that stress is out of the way. It still feels real, but just seems SO far away that it would be ridiculous to start to plan much more.

Lots of little bits felt like "real moments", like when we ordered my dress etc. But it's just recently I'm completely giddy and realised it's only just over 3 months til I get hitched!! I keep saying to OH "we're getting married, lalalalalal!" I'm all emotional and excited all the time!

It's quite hard to think about where to start with everything. I'm mega stressed that I haven't got a dress yet, does anyone else think it is absolutely insane spending over £1000 on a dress that you're only going to wear once??

I wanted something different as well, I'm thinking of getting a dress made, but have no idea how long it would take or how much it would cost. The dress I liked yesterday was over £1300 that is just mad!!!! I think I will start to chill out a bit when I know what I'm going to wear... any advice on dresses is much appreciated....?

My dress was just under £800 and I've justified it by saying I'll sell it after the wedding. It'll break my heart to do it but there's no sense in keeping it and it might make someone else very happy if they're on a budget and can't afford a new dress. This is also the one and only time in my life I'll ever spend that sort of money (well, MUM will ever spend that sort of money!) on one outfit, so I may as well let go of my hang-ups and just enjoy it for what it is Smiley smile

It probably didn't hit me until the actual morning when I was waiting in the bridal suite ready to go in. Up until then it always seemed so far away (even when it was 2 days away!) so just didn't seem real.

I suppose £800 is better than £1300 and I suppose if you're going to sell it after it does seem a little better.

It's not that I couldn't buy an £800 dress it just seems mad.... oh I don't know what to do. Will have to get in gear soon though, the whole "6 months order time" has started to worry me!!! ☹️

    Hi

Three moments both last week - one was on 1st Sept when I realised that "ITS NEXT MONTH" that we are getting married and then the day after when I got the call to say my dress had arrived and then yesterday when I went to try on my own dress rather than the sample and realised that this is it, the dress I will be wearing on the day!

I was just standing in the shop in front of the mirror with this big daft grin on my face saying I didnt want to take my dress off!!

    Happy days!!!!!!!!!!!?

It still doesnt feel real to be honest. I keep thinking it only 8 weeks and however many days away and keeps getting closer. However, it hasnt actually sunk in yet that i'm getting married. I know it sounds strange but i know i'm getting married but it just doesnt seem real yet. I think thats the reason why nothing has phased me yet.

For me I dont even think it was finding my dress TBH. I just kept focussing on what needed doing next etc. Its really hit me whilst being in this quiet 'lull' as a few weeks ago I went to a friends wedding and then it hit me sh*t we really are doing this! And since then I've just been so excited about it all. It still feels ages away though ☹️ but I'm sure it'll come round quick enough!

    I really cant wait! ?

    xxx

If I'm complete honest it still doesn't feel real - and I've only 12 days to go! Eek! The closest I've got is when I watched last week's Don't Tell the Bride and she was walking down the aisle crying - I got a bit emotional watching it (sad cow I know!) and thought that's going to be me blubbing down the aisle soon! Hehe! xxxx
