When do you put up your Christmas tree?

Cat In A Teacup, 17 November, 2013 at 18:37 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 45

Today my facebook has been flooded with people making plans to put up their trees this week. I know I'm a bit of a scrooge but surely this is far too early!?

Do you have a set date that you decorate or is it just as and when you find the time?

I wouldn't want it up anytime before the first weekend of Dec. But OHs argument is that it is a lot of faff so the sooner it's up, the more worthwhile it is. He wants to do an OTT fairylight display like he's seen on youtube but I vetoed it. (But I would let him if I could just run away for a few days and return to it all beautiful and twinkly with no faff. I may suggest it for the weekend of the Brum meet...)

We tend to go to our parents' for Christmas so don't actually usually have a tree in our flat (we did it once, lugging a tree up 3 flights of stairs shedding needles everywhere is no fun!) My parents tend to put theirs up the weekend before Christmas, maybe 2 weekends if they're really pushing the boat out.

I'm the biggest Christmas nut I know but this is too early! This is my first proper Christmas in my own home, since before I lived with a flatmate who wasn't that into a tree ( but moaned the year I didn't bother!) then last year we weren't really moved in here properly.

MF is very bah humbug, so I'm going to gradually put bits up in the next couple of weeks so it's not one big shock!. Already got my Christmas candles out, then will put tree up maybe a couple of wks before!

Our rule is that it has to be December before it goes up, so probably the first December weekend.

I know this is still early for lots of people, but I grew up spending my Christmas school holidays at my grans so we would put up decorations early to enjoy them before going away and now December feels odd without it.

Haha Helenia reminds me when my old flatmate being a boy bought the biggest tree they had, then carried it up three floors. Only thing was, when it came up it was compacted in a net, and when time came to get rid, we couldn't get it back down, by that time dry and shedding so we ended up throwing it out the window!

When my sister had my niece we both decided to put our tree's up on the eve of her birthday (9th Dec) so that when she woke up the next day the tree's would be up.

She's 20 this year and we still do it that way.

1st December ideally. When I was little we wernt allowed to put it up until the 2nd weekend in December so it always feels mega early.

Mine comes down before new year though, I'm sick of the sight of it by then.

We don't have a set date, so normally a couple of weeks before Christmas. I think we're really really going to struggle with baubles being pulled off and the tree being trashed this year, so the later the better!

I used to do it mid december, but since I moved in with H we've been putting it up at the beginning of December because we always go away to parents etc around the 20th and don't come back til it's time to take it down!

Our fake tree is in H's parents' attic though so not sure when we're going to get time to go over and get it! Might just have to get a real one instead Smiley winking

L's birthday is December 1st and he changes his mind every year about whether or not he wants the tree up before or after. Last year it went up on November 25th. This year we're busy that weekend (well, 23rd - 24th) so we might put it up on the 30th.

It is already out of the garage, sitting in the hall calling to me...

Normally the 2nd weekend in December, however this year we have a new one and it's a lot bigger than the one we had in our old house, and I am itching to get it up. Nothing would tempt me to do it before December however!

I agree that November is way too early.

I'm normally the most Christmassy person ever and want the tree up/start talking about it in October but this year I've been a miserable cow and not feeling it at all but H has made me feel all Christmassy today!

When we were little it was always two weeks before and last year we were all busy and had a lot on and the only free day we had was the 3rd (even me being OTT Christmassy thought it might be a little early) but I loved it, it made me feel really into it and put me in a good mood. This year will be going up 1st/2nd maybe. I have my window snowflake jellies and fake snow for my big candle holder so I'm organised.

I actually love getting the big christmas boxes down from the loft and getting out my Christmas CDs. I like getting the use out of it as I start taking decorations down on Boxing Day and the tree comes down on the 27th. Can't be bothered with it up past that.

This year it looks like well still have our mattress in the living room so I'm not sure what room we will have!

30th Nov, as it takes a couple of days to put all my decs up, and C likes to have them up for his Birthday (2nd Dec)

This year, it will either be the 29th, or put half of them up on the 1st, due to the Hitched meet being on the 30th.

Ordinarily, I put our decs up the first weekend in December to get full value from them. I love christmas and my house (being renovated) looks a lot nicer with the decs up so I'm always keen to get the tree up. I do think November is too early, but his year we will be on honeymoon until the week before christmas so I'm putting them up next weekend! It's he only time I have to do it before the wedding and honeymoon! I will wait though and do mince pies and start drinking baileys and snowballs until we're back ?

I think 1st December as we are away from 4th for a week and so when we get back it might feel too late. Need to get cards out end Nov as some people don't have our new address yet!

About the 15th. We put it up om the 1st a few years ago and it really started annoying me. Was down boxing day that year, usually take it down on the 3rd in prep for H's birthday on the 4th.

We both have the 7th of December off so it'll be going up then! I'm very excited as I've ordered an awesome decoration from Kharv so want to hang it up as soon as possible!

We'll probably take the decorations down on the Saturday after christmas (28th). I hate them being up for too long after the day!

1st December for us too and we can't wait! Love Christmas time!

Real tree for us too, one of my favourite parts of Christmas is wrapping up warm and going out and picking our tree!

Growing up it always went up 12 days before, but when H and i moved into our own place, we started putting our tree up the first weekend in December. i passed a flat on Saturday that had their Christmas decorations up both inside and out. i thought that was too early. my mum said she'd passed the same flat the week before and it was like that too.
