From the places I went to try on dresses, they all recommended 8 months ahead of the wedding. That gives them plenty of time to make it and then have the alterations done to fit you perfectly. I reckon they could do it with 6 months notice, or posibly less if you were really lucky. But I would say 8 months is a good stress-free standard to go by.

But there's no harm in going to look now at styles and shapes you like. The more you can try on the more certain you will be at what you like and don't like.

Well we are not getting married until 2016, but I am going to try dresses on this weekend. I have fallen in love with one I saw online so if I don't try it on I will never forgive myself. If I love it I have no worries in buying it this far in advance and I don't mind if the fashion changes, i've never been one whos on trend anyways te he he. If I do hate though it at least I won't have a "..what if.." moment as I didn't try it on and it'll give me other chances to go out with the girls and my mum if I don't like it ?

Plus, if it works out more expensive than I originally thought it gives me more time to save.

If you find one you fall in love with, and you can't think of anything else, then buy it, but stop looking at that point, just in case...

I decided on mine last May (getting married this May). I found my dress lady at the NWS too (think she's there this year). Granted, I am getting it made for me. Have fun with the process, try on as many different styles as possible, even if it looks like poo on a hanger! Like the others say, stop looking after you've found the right frock for you. You'll have plenty to do to keep you away from looking anyway! x

I am June 2015 too and I will be starting to look at NWS in March (I'm going to the Manchester one). I definitely don't think it's too soon to buy, if you find the one then go for it. I doubt fashions will change so dramatically in the next 18 months that what you pick now will look out of place by your big day. Good luck!

I am not getting married until August 2015, but I bought my dress in October last year! I met the seamstress of a bespoke boutique in Brighton and she was so incredible and had so many ideas that I immediately knew I wanted her to make my dress. Plus it was 2K cheaper than the Jenny Packham I had fallen in love with...

You should buy it whenever you find it! :-). I don't think it hurts to shop early as some dresses have very long lead in times and it might take you a while to find what you want. I bought mine 13months before because I fell in love with one very early on. I tried TONS of dresses on though before I bought it of every style and shape I could find just to check there weren't any that came close. The main reason for this was so that if I had dress wobbles later on, in most cases I could think 'well I tried on something similar to that and it didn't look as good'. It's helped a lot so I'd advise doing this.

Fashions won't change that much in that short time as lots of brides are buying their dresses now for 2015 so nothing will look 'out of date' and your wedding will have it's own personal style anyway. The only thing you'll miss out on by buying early is newer collections but likewise, there might be the perfect dress for you right now that will be discontinued later down the line so it's always worth looking early!

    ...whenever you want to.

I decided on my dress by Feb 2012 for wedding June 2013. Bought the base dress and lace in April and it hung in the closet for close to a year before I took it to a local dressmaker to get started on the customization. I knew exactly what I wanted, and I never changed my mind. If you think you're likely to change your mind maybe it isn't the dress anyways.

It is http://www.whiteleafbridal.com/ I met with Emma, she was absolutely amazing and spent ages pinning and tucking and adding bits until I had something I loved. Nothing was too much trouble for her and I was there at least 2 hours! It was such a different experience to another local shop that was supposedly 'award winning', but had the most awful customer service.

Personally i would wait as I kept changing my mind! The longer you have ahead the more chance of it...Of course don't leave it too late either. The shop i bought my dress from said 6-8mths which means mine will come in between march and may so i left it to the last moment i guess. I changed my mind a few times so i'm happy with that :0
