When to buy a wedding dress?

Expensivepurplebridesmaid50886, 14 October, 2018 at 12:21 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi all,

we are getting married June 2020 and we have very slowly started planning the wedding together. I decided to start browsing for a wedding a dress as I really had no idea what dress style I liked or suited me. Yesterday I found a dress that I absolutely fell in love with and so did my bridal party. I’m hesitant to purchase my dress yet as the wedding is so far away (20 months away). I’d like to try a couple of similar dresses to compare them. I’m also aware that new styles may come out next year though I’m pretty sure in my mind that i have already found my dress.

would you say 20 months is too soon to put a deposit down?

Gosh that is quite a while! Give yourself about 5 more visits to try on lots of different styles from various shops. Then if you still haven't found anything you like as much then go for it Smiley smile

We’re also getting married June 2020!!! So exciting!!!

Ive already chosen my dress, said yes last week!!! I went to 5 different shops and must have tried on around 40 dresses. I went round in a big circle. I always thought I’d go for something quite plain and classic then went through a phase of wanting something a bit more bling and mermaidy. Last week I went to an appointment with my mum and Nan and ended up falling in love with a gorgeous form fitting fishtail and it’s what I wanted all along. I will be 39 on our weddding day so can’t see that my fashion style will change that much fingers crossed.

Maybe book a couple of appointments to put your mind at rest and confirm that is the one!!!

    Hi!

I bought my dress this March and we're getting married November 2019. I must have tried on about 20 dresses from 3 different shops, and my dress was probably the 15th I'd tried on and I just had to go back to it after trying on the 20th. If you're worried about the dress going out of season, you could ask the dress shop assistant when they think it will go, try on the other dresses, then if none of them sing to you like this one then go for it.

I bought my dress in December 2017 and I don’t get married until August 2019. I knew what I wanted and a rare sample sale came up on the designer I loved so I just went for it. I knew before I went it was out of two of the four dresses i’d seen online that I would love and I was right. Absolutely love my dress and it would have cost me £3,500 without alterations which was something I could never have afforded. Managed to get it for £500! Bargain and although I’m biased it’s the most beautiful dress, can’t wait to wear it. I’m lucky that the style of dress I have gone for allows me to either put a bit of weight on or lose it and will still fit me fine as it’s secured by ties at the back which wrap around the waist. I think I would have worried a little more if I’d bought me dress so early and it wasn’t so easily fixed if I’d lost or gained a lot of weight before the big day. But I think as long as your weight is normally fairly steady and your mindful of that then go for it. If you find a dress you love then it doesn’t matter when you buy it, as long as your sure and you feel a million dollars in it then go for it! Good luck and hope you find your dream dress it really is a special moment.

Hi, i'm getting married Sept 2019 and i went shopping for dresses 2 months ago with the intention of deciding on a style that would suit me.

I tried on 6 dresses and fell in love with 2 of them. I slept on it, went back the next day and instantly knew which one i wanted. If you love it, buy it. It doesn't matter how early it is if its the one you want.
