I'm getting married in July 2012, i also have this problem so i thought i'd start looking for dresses towards the end of next year then buy one the beginning of 2012 although i want to try and leave that as late as possible because i'm rubbish at maintaining weight lol x

I'm going to open a separate bank account for the dress and pay into it every month along with paying into the wedding account that way when i go looking for my dress (i'm thinking 2012 new year sales) i'll have the money to pay for it out right and i might even get a bargain lol Good Luck ! ?

    Hi,

A fellow Buffy fan by the sounds of it - YAAY!

I am getting married 23rd Dec 2011 but already paid deposit and ordered my dress - majority of shops quoted me approximately 20 weeks for delivery so I ordered it on 11th Dec and it won't be delivered til end of April or beginning of May next year, then i have to have the alterations done...

I looked for hours and hours on end online for dresses, then I searched for stockists in my region. Then I emailed said stockists and asked if they had that particular dress as a sample to try on in store - naively, I thought that if they were, say, Ronald Joyce stockists they'd have a sample of each dress in the shop!!! LOL! I managed to find three shops in Leeds and surrounding area who had my top 3 dresses in. Booked an appointment with each, went and tried the dresses and decided on the final one, Ronald Joyce's "Chelsea".

    Good luck!

I'm getting married in march 2012 and I was desperate to go dress shopping, it was the first thing I did after booking the venue!!! I tried on about 25 dresses and fell in love with one from berketex brides!! That was in October lol So it's never too early, just depends on what you want to do first. I was obsessed with dresses.

That's quite lucky! Hope you find "The One"! I am buying the first dress I actually tried on and really liked!

I also am a big Buffy fan, my house is full of pics with the cast and crew, autographs, books etc... At one point i even had an Angel standee in the hallway LOL... I have translated into Romanian the spells / dialogue that Willow / Angel / others say in different episodes and also met Joss Whedon and the guys when I rehearsed with said cast the pronounciation of said Romanian lines...

My advice would be to buy a dress as soon as possible, it may take a while before you find one you really love more than the rest. I got engaged in Sept 10 and am getting married in June 11 and felt under quite a bit of pressure to get a dress as they take so long to arrive. It's the only thing i got stressed out about, everything else is straightforward in comparison.

Does anyone know why wedding dresses take 5-6months to arrive?!

I was told by two different people who work in the industry that it's because of the acute lack of specialised bridal seamstresses. Apparently there are very few properly trained, and the majority are abroad. My mother designs and makes clothes and she also told me this. As most designer dresses involve a lot of hand detailing, they can take at least 4-5 months to make in your size unless you buy a sample dress that happens to fit you...

Have been in touch with a bridal shop, they say to buy your dress at least 8 months before wedding as it can take up to 5 months for your dress to be ordered and arrive at shop then up to 10 weeks for alterations!

I always advise our brides to give us around 6 months notice. It takes us a maximum of 16 weeks to create the dress and it is always better to leave a couple of months for any alterations etc...
