When to go christmas food shopping?

Sunset21, 19 December, 2008 at 16:25 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 21

I've usually done it by now but i've been waiting until MrSun can help me which doesn't look possible now. I was going to go after work with MissSun but will everyone have the same idea? Other options are early morning tomorrow or later on tonight once MissSun is in bed (after 8pm). What do you reckon? I can't stand it when the aisles and checkouts are teaming with people.

We have to go on Sunday as I need H and the car and don't want to go shopping on Christmas Eve (he has two works nights out next week). I expect it will be busy, but don't have much choice.

I would think Monday or Tuesday during the day might work, or later on tonight

Are stores 24 hour at the moment? I've never been out of hours, i've only ever been at about 8am. If MissSun has me up early I could possibly be in Tesco at 7am.

A friend of mine used to go on Christmas eve every year, she came out of ASDA (which is bad enough anyway) in tears after one shop, I couldn't understand why she did it.

I cant understand why people go on christmas eve either. its almost as if there is an obsession to get THE freshest ingredients ?. like a day or two or three makes any difference ?

i faxed my veg order to our farm shop, picking that up on monday, and my mate is bringing the turkey round on tuesday. everything else is sorted. oh, apart from the booze, i have to pick that up tomorrow.

i just have to wrap gifts, and i HATE wrapping gifts. HTF do you wrap a handbag nicely ffs?

I went into Waitrose earlier to get chicken livers and they are due to go out of date on the 23rd, so I'm going to leave it til Monday to get things. Although no doubt the shelves will be stripped bare by then by all the frantic shoppers ?

Nick, did you hear on the news this morning about a new company that offers to wrap presents badly, so it looks like you did it yourself? ?

Put it in a box ( a nice one, not a left over grocery box)

We'll pick turkey, bacon, sausagemeat and sausages up from butcher on Christmas Eve and will buy everything else at 6am on Monday morning. My mum will nip out on Christmas Eve (en route to butchers) to buy fresh bread and anything else we need from the farm shop on the High Street.

Nick, get the biggest box you can find, tape some bottles or something into the bottom to make it heavy and put the handbag inside. Mrs Nick will think you have bought her a massive present and you can have a bit of fun.

Nick gift boxes or gift bags are good ?

My friend got a handbag last year which came in a cotton drawstring sack thingy, and was then in a smart glossy box with some big shot name on it.

(I still dont think she's ever had it out the sack !)

We're off tonight for most of it and I'll pick up the salmon I've ordered from Waitrose together with fresh veg on Christmas Eve.

No no noooo we'll all diiiiiiiiie ? No, not really - I promise I only only left them today because they weren't free range ones. I'm hoping on Monday they'll be happy livers, otherwise I'll get the others, no matter the date.

We're going tonight. I bought quite a lot of it over the past few weeks but we've managed to drink a few crates of beer and a few bottles of wine already so need to restock.

Turkey is being picked up on Christmas Eve, potatoes from the market tomorrow, everything else tonight. Our cupboards are bare as I've been putting it off and using up everything I have in the meantime. I'm dreading it. I've promised MrKB we'll go to one supermarket which is near a pub and we'll stop off on the way home. ?

We're doing ours Monday morning, then Mr Hole will pop out early Christmas Eve morning to get the bread and milk and anything I've forgotten.

We are off to Yorkshire tomorrow-have hired a cottage in Hebden Bridge (insert stupidly excited icon!) I have already arranged for an online shop to be delivered up there on Monday. There's no way I brave supermarkets at this time of year, even if I was at home.
