When to meet with the florist?

Red Baroness, 21 February, 2012 at 22:14 Posted on Planning 0 4

Our florist is actually in house at the venue, with table floral arrangements being included in our package. I met with the wedding co-ordinator at our venue recently, who mentioned that the florist is behind in meeting brides due to the ill health of a family member, poor thing. I therefore don't want to contact her unnecessarily. I'm not too worried about not having met to discuss floral arrangements and bouquets etc yet. Just wondering at what point, if I still haven't heard from her, I should get in touch with the venue?

I met mine with 4 months to go but this will be the first time they have done our venue so wanted to give them plentybof time. As your is in house it may be easier but I'd be getting in contact pretty soon.

I only went to discuss flowers at the weekend and we had 9 weeks to go, we probably could of left it another couple of weeks from her point of view but I wanted to know exactly what flowers we are having and to start trying to plan logistics of the day...like what time she'd dress the venue...what time the men would get buttonholes....what time the bouquets would get to us etc. I think it depends when your ready to finalise everything

It is important to know everything you are expected to pay to the florist BEFORE you agree to employ them. For example, are there any hidden setup or delivery charges? Does the florist charge a consultant fee? Most do not. Some may, to pay for the time spent meeting with you. There is always the risk that they will spend many hours giving you ideas, only to have you go elsewhere. Most florists are honest, but some will nickel and dime you to death. So watch out for all the little incidentals that add up quickly, especially personal flowers.

Thanks all. Think I'll leave it until 3 months before and then contact the venue if I haven't heard anything by then.
