When to order suits!?????

lauren700, 14 January, 2011 at 00:00 Posted on Planning 0 11

Hi ladies, Quick question-when should we book the men's suits?? We are hopefully buying a new house and so could do with leaving it as long as possible.

We went and 'booked' with Moss Bros about five and a half months before the wedding, and paid in full. They don't have to go and get measured until about 3 months before though so you could probably put it off til then if you want to!

I know one site selling men's suits, and the price is very reasonable, maybe you can have a look!

Generally i think you could wait until 2 weeks before hand but its not recommended. Suit companies tend to put the order in (for a sat wedding) its delivered on the tuesday, its tried on if there is a problem then a corrected suit is redelivered for thursday or friday with return on a monday.

Its worth visiting the suit shops and asking,

what part of the country are you in? and im sure some may be able to suggest solutions based upon suit shops in your area.

OK I will admit I have a bit of an organisational problem, but I ordered with Moss Bross 14 months before the wedding. I knew the colours I wanted they had a deal on and I got 2009 hire prices for a wedding in 2011, as we paid in full we have saved quite a bit. The boy had a quick try on fo different things came up with what they wanted to wear and will be going for their fitting in a couple of weeks.

    Hi,

Every hire company is slightly different. It really does depend on what you want, the big guys (Moss, Youngs, Debenhams, & Burtons) all recommend 6 months in advance but it wasn't that long ago that they would recommend 4 weeks in advance. I would imagine they have very big warehouses full of stock, so leaving it a little later should not be a problem. (may be a quick call to one of them and find out?)

Smaller retailers such as my company and others like mine, recommend six months but most do book earlier. If your OH has a particular preference on style, then look early. Every year there are a handful of popular styles or colours and they are the first to be fully booked.

So I guess it really comes down to how particular you are (or rather your OH). If you are willing to comprimise on style or colour you could probably leave it down to just a few weeks in advance.

Think am getting the organised bug also as we get married June 2012 and we have picked and paid for ours in full just before Christmas!

Although, as others have said we don't need to do anything now until next year and men have to go for a fitting 6 weeks before, my Son (pageboy) has to go nearer the time still.

And although we have the suits, ordered and paid we have not fully decided on what colour waistcoats the men are having, as it will depend on my dress colour but they said we can sort this nearer the time also.

We picked, ordered and paid a year away.

I think it depends on the style that you want - we are having Navy suits which aren't hugely popular and so didn't need to book there and then but we got such a good deal I couldn't say no!! If you wanted something new, moden and very popular like Charcoal grey or black then i'd call your supplier and check with them.

Blue has been hugely popular for me over the last year, most of my bookings for 2011 are in blue. ?

Really? Wow it's funny how one shop finds one thing, and another finds a whole other thing.

My shop is an independant shop and he's had to order a huge new batch of charcoal grey - he said our Navy suits are never "the height" of fashion but also never "out" of fashion either - perhaps he was wrong.!

We ordered ours last september / october but they're not going to be measured until a few months before and the page boys not until the last minute. i think two or three months will be fine, but you could always choose them and just put down a deposit so at least they are booked, if you wanted?

we got ours from Formal Affair and they're silver
