When to order the dress??

Curly Panda, 3 November, 2009 at 16:29 Posted on Planning 0 2

I'm getting married in may 2011 and have found the dress that I want. Im just wondering when I should be ordering the dress and bridemaids dresses? I was thinking of ordering it in May 2010 as then I have a year to get my weight etc sorted but I am also wondering if ordering it a year in advance is too far ahead. Saying that though I am a really oragnised person and like having things sorted in advance rather than leave it late, Im just stuck lol

Well, it kind of depends on whether you think your weight is likely to change in the 12 months before or whether you'll be happy/unchanged then. If not then I can't see it matters too much - and as you say, it's one more thing organsied! As a guide, I've just ordered mine and should get it back in Feb-March - then allow a month or so for alterations - April. So the latest you should do it is about six months I reckon.

I found my 'ONE' in March and put a deposit on it there and then, i finished paying for it in september and the shop has now put in the order for it to arrive in January. Ready for my wedding in August.

There are a couple of things you need to think about such as how much weight/ dress sizes are you aiming to lose? There are normally alterations that need doing to the dress any way and they can usualy be taken in or let out a size either side.

I too have been pretty organised with things and have booked everything, just got to confirm a couple of things such as hair and make up (will do that once i have had my trials)

So that said i suppose the answer to your question is no, if you have found 'THE ONE' then go for it, there is no harm ordering a year in advance.

Good luck in your planning x

Just be careful the dress doesn't get discontinued in that time. ?

With my flower girl dresses, I have ordered them but measurements are not being taken until Jan so they don't grow too much between then and the wedding - can you not do something similar? The designer would then honour the order even if the dress is discontinued (or so I'm lead to believe!
