When to send out invites?

Elphaba, 22 February, 2011 at 13:23 Posted on Planning 0 8

How early did you send your invites out? I know traditionally its 6 weeks before but venue wants half estimated cost paid 3 months before so thinking of sending them earlier. Have sent a save the date out but would be nice to know who is coming and who isn't so I can start getting things more sorted. Getting married Dec 3rd.

I had the same issues. Our venue wants numbers quite early too and we wanted to know how many we needed to pay for. We are getting married in June and they wanted numbers by March so we sent ours out in December...I guess there is no harm in sending early and as you say you need them for the venue and costs.

How about sending them out in July? we have had the odd few people we have had to chase but we sent it out with enough time to cater for this.

We are getting married in may (eeek!) and i had made them all but thought it was too early to send out so was going to wait till end of feb, but people kept asking when they were going to get their invite so i sent them out at the end of jan, giving mid march as rsvp date and i am in the process of sending out evening invites! although now i know a few day people can't come, i am thinking of bumping up some evening guests to the day list so have been holding off sending out a few of the evening ones!

Our wedding is in July (next year) so I think I'll send mine out in early March. Plenty of time to allow them to book accommodation etc.

I would send them out at the beginning of June and give an rsvp deadline of end August - December is a busy month for people so it's a good idea to get yourself booked into diaries early!

We sent ours out four months before with an RSVP date of two months before the wedding.

I'm getting married in June and am sending mine out mid-March with an RSVP of 30th April. That gives me a month to chase people before final numbers are needed (1st June).

Send them whenever you want! Planning guides say 6 weeks before but I dont think thats realistic in terms of planning everything plus it gets people off your backs asking about hotel's ?

I'd say 3 months before with 1 month to RSVP would be fine.

    Hi

I normally advise three months before but as December can be a very busy and expensive month for many, more notice would be good.

I would send out 4 months with 1 month RSVP

How many guests are coming from abroad? I will send out my invites mid-March, the wedding is only in August. The reason is that most of the guests have to book their flights early to make a bargain...

    Good luck!

We generally say three months before but if you are worried I would go to four.
