When to start organising again...?

Cat D, 26 December, 2013 at 22:15 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hey all,

I am getting married in Oct 2015 and am wondering when to get organising things again. I know I want to get my music sorted pretty quickly but other than that it still seems ages away to get other things sorted...when did you sort other things?

This is what is booked so far:
Venue
Caterer
TOG
Music for ceremony
BM/MOH/BM chosen

Your help will be much appreciated and hopefully spur me on to get more sorted Smiley laugh

Cat

Hi Cat I booked mine with about 18months to go plan, all I can say is, plan, get ideas but don't book too soon. As much as I thought I wanted something, I then changed my mind a little and wanted to change bits. I'd picked my flowers and booked a florist who worked with venue dresser and then a friend of mine got married with similar flowers and I wasn't mad on them so completely changed the flower and design. We booked and paid deposit on venue, then in had a massive wobble and wished I hadn't. Although I've been back since with a different wedding coordinator and I'm settled again. Plan, enquire, budget and then I'd say wait a little, get ideas, opinions of people close to you and only once your 100% book and secure. That's just my opinion though Hun xx

It looks like you have done very well so far and booked all the main things already, you can organise a wedding in 6 months but hopefully as you have found out the sooner you start the better chance you will have of obtaining your first choice of date and suppliers. I would say what you have left to do are all the "fun" bits as sorting out the main things you already have can be stressful.

If I were you I'd just do research in to things you like and suppliers etc... Then at 18months to a year to go start booking things or organising your other bits.

Other than the big things you've booked which are better to book sooner rather than later you just need to be careful you don't book stuff too eary in case your taste changes or you change your mind. I've seen quite a few brides who bought dresses early & changed their mind nearer the time.

It is tempting to go dress shopping but I do agree that there is little point as something better may come along or I may change my mind.

I guess I am getting itchy feet as we have already been engaged for nearly four years and waiting another two years seems like a long time.

I think I will be happier once my entertainment is booked Smiley smile

    Thanks all

    I'm October 2015 too! What's your date?!

So far, I've booked the church and venue, inc catering, bar, toastmaster. I've designed, printed and sent my save the dates (I know it's quite early, but I'm excited!) I've also chosen a few samples for the invitations as I'm making my own. I've chosen my favours and will buy those when money allows!

I 'proposed' to my best friend and asked her to be my chief bridesmaid, and H2B has selected his BestMan and Usher.

I have researched my TOG and DJ, I intend to book these in January once I've been paid!

I instead to research a florist and wedding cars in February.

Ive decided im decorating my own cake, bought from M&S, I've picked the theme and the colour for the bridesmaid dresses and the men's suits, I don't plan on getting these until 2015, as people change sizes and I don't want to be paying for too many alterations!

I think this is everything I've done so far!! xx

    Hey all,

I forgot to mention that we have some other things kinda sorta (kinda because we know who is doing things but not the nitty-gritty of what we want):

Cake - being made by my MIL2B
Hair - being done by my SIL2B
Invites - being made by my sis and I
Colour scheme is all picked out too Smiley smile

There is probably more but I can't think of it all right now (in PGCE portfolio mode....ug...wedding planning is much more fun!)

    Hi cat,

Your doing very well and it's always nice to be organised. I'm a freelance wedding hairdresser and I work alongside a make up artist and normally we have brides ring us a good year to 18 months in advance especially if there dates fall on bank holiday or popular dates in the year. At least once you have things booked its peace of mind all the best with getting sorted.
