    Hi

I don't think it needs to be a problem, just bearing in mind when you are picking things out and putting together. You could even incorporate the yellow as an accent colour into the whole theme if you wanted to bring it all together.

Hi there monkey_nut, I've been to a few weddings where they have use purple and yellow and it looks stunning - very bright and bold and I think the colours really compliment each other here are some examples below, so as cardiff said you could always incorporate the yellow to bring it all together:

Whether you want the yellow or not it doesn't matter, once your room is dressed with your colour it will shine through and you wont notice the colour of the walls/chairs/curtains and carpet so do not let that worry you......

Oh and the MIL is wrong... ?

Thanks everyone! I knew I should just ignore it but it kept nagging at me.

I was hoping to have ple pinks & lilacs with my purple rather than yellow but it quite clearly doesn't clash! Smiley smile

I never realy thought about matching the clour scheme to the room - really worried now. Walls are cream which is fine, but the back wall is red, and our colour sceme is purple!!

It wouldn't make any difference to me, what colour the walls were. I can't even think of what colour the walls were at all the weddings I've been to so I don't think anyone else will really notice/care.

Both of my venues have stone walls with the reception having some wood panelling too so I don't really think anything needs matching to them.

Hmm, given my venue decor, I would have been foolhardy to ignore it. Plus, we picked a venue that fitted the style of wedding we wanted and therefore, it matched by definition. I have two themes for my wedding though, venue stuff and bridal party stuff, which complement rather than match, although admittedly fall into a wonderful colour palette as a whole.

We're having a purple and yellow theme so your MIL2B is wrong there!

I never considered our venue colours when we chose ours as I knew I would always be having purple, but our venue is all reds and greens and in hindsight there are probably other colours that compliment it more, but I don't care! They won't clash horrendously and that's all I'm bothered about!!

    Hey there Monkey Nut,

I have been wondering about this myself, our scheme is black and ivory and I only noticed on our second visit to our venue that each of our tables has a quite noticeable fixed piece of red carpet underneath it, the walls are all exposed brick so thats fine but Im hoping no-one notices the red as it doesnt fit our theme or colour scheme at all. eek!

You will be totally fine with the yellow walls though as it sets of the purple beautifully! Sure it will look lovely.

I didn't consider a colour scheme when we booked our venue. The venues room is quite red actually but our theme is fuschia and silver. Luckily though we are having the wedding outside in a pagoda/gazebo and the breakfast on a patio outside. The room that has been hired which is just next to the patio is just for the evening and my venue decorator is going to cover the curtains (which are wine red and ivory). The carpet is dark blue but people aren't going to notice that, it doesn't bother me. The venue is perfect in my eyes.

WTF??!!!! The woman is talking out of her ****!

It doesn't matter what colour the walls are! Or the carpet. Or the curtains, or the sofas, or anything else.

If you love the venue then go for it.
