I'm always interested as to where everyone is as we do seem to have a lot of people in certain areas. You have a shedload of very decent venues in that list....although I admit my favorite must be Fanhams. If you know the venue, there are some really great photographic locations both in the gardens and in the house itself.

Tewinbury I did in the days when it was only a farm where you did your own catering....Sopwell I was nearly jokingly banned from as I photographed 4 of their first ever dozen weddings there and it rained at each one!!!!! Bush Hall is more intimate and Forty Hall has a great lake......although their grounds are not private and you get public mingling with your guests....

Re the bit where I am from.......I was born in Barnet, raised in Southgate.....went to school in Barnet(QE Boys)...moved to Winchmore Hill when married and then to Hoddesdon....

I lived right next to Westfield Junior School until H2b and I got our first place in Stanstead Abbotts... I know John Warner and Sheredes quite well but I went to Broxbourne.

I used to work in Heathers newsagent - the smaller one near Meadows and Barclays? (which I think is a card shop now like the rest of the town!) so you remember it? I still remember when it was the OLD sainsburys and Rumbelows in falcon walk!

Oh forgot to say I think my fave of that list is Fanhams too - been to a few there. The 'older' side is so beautiful...

Have you tried Ponsbourne too? The grounds are amazing and there are rooms for guests to stay over...

Hi ? Born and bred in Wakefield, West Yorkshire but lived all my married life (25 yrs) in Dewsbury. (and no, just in case you were wondering, people in Dewsbury aren't like the infamous family who will shortly be behind bars!!) We are all really friendly, straight talking Yorkshire folk - honest!

LOL! The Tower Centre!!!! Have you been there recently? It's being refitted! My parents still live there!!

I lived on the hundred acre estate to start with, then moved down to the other end just as it turns into Broxbourne to a road called The Avenue by Sheredes School. Opposite The George Pub. Past the Spinning Wheel.

Which School did you go to? I went to Cranbourne Infants, then The Broxbourne School!

I think Flames is still there by the way!

Small world - I went to Brox too! What year did you leave? I went to Westfield before that - we probably know a lot of the same people!

My parents are still there too - Westfield Road, off Hertford Road.

Did you see Peter posted on this thread too as he is also a Hoddesdon-ite!

I know Westfield Road! Yes, and I've just been wading through this thread and saw Peter is also in Hodd.

I bet I'm older than you - I started Broxbourne in 1985! I'm scrutinising your avatar, but I can't recognise you behind the glass!!!

(Mind you, I do have a really bad memory for faces and names, so we'll probably work out that we were in the same class or something!!)

That explains it then! I left in 92, so I'd have been in the sixth form doing my A levels at that point! My Mum still worked there then - she used to do the photocopying. If you ever went into the office you would have seen her. Her name's Gillian.

I remember it well....they didn't sell traditional "top shelf" magazines although they did put the photography magazines on the top shelf.

I commented that anyone passing by outside who happened to look in through the window would see me rifling through the top shelf magazines!!!!!

Re the Tower Center!!!!! All that money spent refurbishing it and now Woolies has gone. That really only leaves Superdrug and Argos as the main shops in the centre.

I do recall the days when the center had restaurants called the Bosuns Locker(steaks) and Fuzi(Chinese)......The center used to have a decent bike shop(Norris) although that was defunct when the then new Tower Centre owners banned bikes from the centre and Norris(a good artist btw) had to reduce his shop and only sell TVs and kitchen goods.

I used to spend lots of time in Heathers.

And I remember Norris's well! My Dad used to always go in there!

Hoddesdon's really gone down hill. I took my fiance round the town on a magical mystery tour and it's really sad. It used to be such a bustling place.

There used to be a sewing shop called Sew Easy near the library. The woman who owned it used to be known as Rusty Voice to my Mum and I as I think she must have been a heavy smoker!

That venue has a great exterior spiral staircase and collonade....and some interesting locations on the 1st floor too.

A few years ago, Sainsbury's arranged their xmas party at that venue....they were slightly embarassed to discover that it was owned by Tesco!!!

Fanhams ironically was owned by Sainsbury although they sold it a few years ago.

Oh I love Hebden Bridge! We used to go to the Clog Factory to the craft shops there many years ago. Did it burn down or close down? Seem to remember a big fire.....?

I know what you mean... do you remember Haywards? That place had EVERYTHING! Mum always took me in there to get bits for my blue peter projects! ?

There was a Supersnaps in the tower centre too - and that really old chemist... is the bridal shop still in there?

I love Ponsbourne and it ticks all my requirements but my best friend got married there and a few couples my fiancee works with are getting married there so we just want somewhere different.

I've only heard good things about Fanhams bar one person who said the new owners are very money orientated but i suppose most wedding venues are all about the cash!!

There was a big fire (I think the christmas wonderland upstairs got a bit hot with all the lights...) and it's just been derelict for years now, all boarded up. There was talk of executive apartments like so many of the other old mills in the valley, but so far it's just going to rack & ruin. It's a shame as it's on the way into town and looks scruffy, it was lovely when it was full of craft shops. I've got a pair of clogs from there back in t'day when you could watch the man make them (They are baby sized and adorn my mother's hearth up on the hill in Heptonstall now) - ahhh memories!

The only bridal shop in Hoddesdon is now in the High St....Their recent claim to fame was supplying the dress for an Eastenders wedding. Previous to this the shop was by the clocktower(which previously had been a motorcycle accesory shop and charity shop)....The shop is now unused.
