Where are you going?

smilesjp, 16 July, 2014 at 17:17 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 16

This is literally just me being nosey, but I love hearing about other peoples ideas and plans! We're thinking about going to the Maldives, but the only thing holding us back is the lack of things to do there..

We are getting married in Washington state and our honeymoon will either be Hawaii or California (where my fiancé is originally from). We can't afford to go far and don't have much time off work.

I did a big honeymoon for my first marriage - Bora Bora and New Zealand. So we are keeping it simple this time.

I'm getting married in toarmina, Sicily so we're staying there for a week after the wedding. We're also planning a second honeymoon to Thailand later in the year.

    We're going to the Maldives.

It is on both our holiday 'must-go' lists and so seemed the perfect choice.

As you say, there's not really much to do there but for us our honeymoon is more about relaxation and spending time together. We're not likely to spend this amount of money again on a holiday so we intend to make the most of it. Depending where you go some atolls do a number of different excursions and have varying levels of activities available if they take your fancy.

We're taking h2b's motorbike to Italy for 2 weeks! Taking the motorail there and back, we've done it before - you get on in Holland, have dinner in a dining car as you travel through the Rhone Valley - only downside is seperate beds in the sleeper car! it'll drop us at Livorno, and it's h2b's job to book us lovely hotels and plan our route between now and next June Smiley smile the only things I know we'll do for sure are a drive down the Amalfi coast, 2-3 days in Rome, and a couple of days in Ravenna. We've never been further south than Florence before, but we both adore Italy so know we'll have a good time, with plenty of good food and opportunities for luxury. We thought about Maldives/Sri Lanka or Vietnam/Cambodia, but we've never been to the far east and I'd rather do that once I have an academic job, so that a) we can better afford it, and b) we can take a longer block of time to do it in. if all goes well, maybe it could be a first anniversary trip! but could not be happier with the honeymoon we've planned - our first holiday together was in Venice and Tuscany, and we love touring around together. it also gives h2b something to plan and look forward to while i plan the wedding!

We are going to mexicooo!! we thought about the Maldives but like you was worried about there not being anything to do! we do want to relax but there is only so much laying by the pool and beach I can do! mexico seems to have loads of different excursions - zip lining through the jungle- swimming in caves- swimming with whale sharks- pirate ship dinners! but the Maldives does look amazing! Smiley smile

We are going to Las Vegas for 4 or 5 nights then on to Sandals Royal Bahamian Spa Resort. So far we have only booked the hotel in the Bahamas as we are waiting for flights to be released later on in the year :-)

We are doing a European roadtrip to include Germany (Bavaria), Swiss Alps and the Italian Lakes. We aren't booking hotels - just going to design a rough route and head off for an adventure and see where we end up. Can't wait (we go in about 3 weeks), our wedding was back in June.

We aren't very good at beach holidays - get far too bored so needed something to excite us. My OH adores driving and we have a brand new car for it so this is perfect for us Smiley smile

Can I ask how did you organise this? Or where if you don't mind me asking.

We should have a big guest number 50/60 for abroad wedding and it's putting me off. But yours sounds like it could be possible

We've not booked yet but hoping for San Fransisco for about 3 days then onto Mexico for about 11 days. hope we can afford it when it gets priced up. Mexico looks amazing and we wanted pure indulgence and relaxation but with the option for excursions too!
