Where are you going on honeymoon?

ClaireD*, 16 June, 2014 at 20:21 Posted on Planning 0 65

I'm looking for some inspiration....

We're hoping to go between December and April, so are looking for somewhere that has an appropriate season in that period (ie. not anywhere where those months would be the hurricane season!).

Those months do match Central America seasonally, so that has become a fore-runner, but open to ideas!

Caribbean? We got engaged in Barbados and returned for our honeymoon. The first time we did a week in Miami and then second week in Barbados which was lovely.

We can't go straight after our wedding in September due to work commitments I have so we decided early on that we'll try and take more or less all of December off work. Original plan had been two weeks skiing in a swish North American resort but we seem to have now changed our minds and are thinking of a 3 week trip to New Zealand with a few days in Australia and hopefully a few days on an island somewhere like Taihiti. We have yet to work out a budget or itinerary for this though! OH keeps trying to extend it, his last suggestion was spreading it over 5 weeks which I have told him is just ridiculous and not going to happen! Need to get a move on though as a travel agent told me flights in December are already quite booked up due to Christmas (although I'm not sure how much I trust them not to just be saying this as they want us to get on and book something with them).

We are going to Santorini at the end of August/September.

For the season you are looking the Caribbean would be ideal. My favourite place out of the 4 islands I've visited would be the British Virgin Islands. Barbados and St. Lucia are also nice, I wasn't hugely keen on Antigua but that's only my opinion, I'm sure lots of people like it. My parents really liked St. Maarten. when they went on a cruise.

Another option could be New Zealand?! It would be their summer! It's a very long flight though.

We're going to Scotland for a short break straight after the wedding - not very exotic but still beautiful ? Then in October, we're having a bigger, belated honeymoon with my sister and BIL who have both had a big birthday this year and wanted a fab holiday to celebrate. We go to New York for 4 nights and then have a 14 night Caribbean cruise - can't wait!

Mine is the least exotic! We are staying in the UK. The first couple of nights will be in a log cabin in the middle of nowhere, just us to being married and all that ;-) then we will go to London for a few days, probably go to a concert there as well. But it is our mission to be staying at least one night in the Shangri-La hotel in the Shard :-) better save my pennies for that one!!

Just came back from NYC and Aruba. Eagle Beach area of Aruba was heaven. Quietest, pure-white beach I've ever seen! Mid 30's all week but with pleasant tradewinds to keep it manageable! It's south of the hurricane belt too so less chance of a rainy season.

Nope, mine is the least exotic!

A week in a cottage in Devon. Got a private hot tub but OH's parents have got one anyway so that isn't very exciting for us ? There are lovely views though and we are looking forward to some quiet time.

We can't afford anything. Hopefully eventually after a lot of saving up we'll get to go to Vegas and some other bits of the States - I'm partly waiting for the Chelsea Hotel to reopen as it's my dream to stay there - but in the meantime we've just got a week off to hang out at home.

Our honeymoon will be 3 months after our wedding. We're going for a cruise around Norway in the hunt for the Aurora Borealis. We will try and squeeze in a mini moon after our big day, perhaps a mid week break in Whitby or York x

We get married on 6th December, fly out to Dubai on the 8th December where we will spend 3 nights then onto the Maldives for 11 nights before heading home on the 23rd. I think you'll be looking at anywhere in the Indian Ocean at that time of year - or Mexico as a cheaper alternative.

Hopefully we'll be going for 2 weeks in Australia and 2 in New Zealand one after the other, but as for when, we haven't figured that part out yet! We get married in September so it'll be their Spring and I really don't want to go during their Summer months so we might go straight after or wait til early 2016. Or we might not go there and go somewhere else, but that's the frontrunner at the moment, mainly due to the fact once we start a family we'll probably never get the chance!

The other thing we're mooting is a smaller holiday in the NE US & SE Canada but Oz/NZ is our dream destination....

Another contender for least exotic...we aren't having a honeymoon at all. We can't/won't leave the rats and so until such a time comes that we do not have little furries to look after, holidays are off the agenda!
