Where are you video man and photographer eating??

gemm26, 25 May, 2008 at 13:31 Posted on Planning 0 9

I was just wondering where the photographer and video man would usually eat, Should I put them on the wedding tables if there is room or would they usually eat away from the wedding tables?

We are giving ours the main course of our wedding breakfast.....a good old roast!

Mine didn't sit on the wedding tables. They actually sat at the bar on the other side of room. They told me not make any special arrangements for them and were happy to eat on their feet.

Ours are eating in the bar. I think it would be a bit odd to have them on tables and I'm sure they wouldn't expect to be.

we didn't feed ours......they charge enough for their services anyway.

Plus they had gone by the time we sat down for the wedding meal anyway

As photographers we would never expect to be seated at the wedding breakfast to eat. We would normally expect (and generally prefer) to eat in a side room. This gives us chance for a bit of a breather and chance to check the kits, backup, etc.

Ours are leaving before we sit down but i think if they were staying i'd suggest the bar room area, im not sure how guests would feel being sat with the tog and videographer? without that sounding offensive, they are not celebrating the wedding they are providing a service for the day?

I'm a videographer and have never been officially 'seated' with the guests. I always have food with me anyway, but at most weddings I've either been offered some food in a seperate room, or been offered a seat at the back of the reception room or at the bar. It's nice to have a break tbh, and a chance to check over equipment etc.

I think most photographers and videographers will agree with me that they prefer to be away. We tend to just go for a bar snack and if the couple have been kind enough to pay for this then its much appreciated and we normally stay a bit longer to show our appreciation. Personally im not really a fan of wedding food as its often overpriced and mass produced (has to be really) and much prefer a sarnie and chips.

As already said, its a chance the check things over, changes batts and a tapes. Sit down as its normally non stop without breaks for 10 hours or so. People also dont want to be filmed while eating and its never as nice and civilised as the movies with people shoving it in as fast as they can ?

As I have said in the past, this can be a cultural thing. Some cultures expect the vendors to be part of the wedding and have a vendor table on the peripheral of the room. In these instances, being in the room can be quite useful. There are traditions where one of the family starts chinking a glass with cutlery and is joined in by the rest of the guests. This demands that the couple stand up and kiss. Shots that you can only get if you are in the room and aware and ready for this to happen.

On a personal note, I outside of these weddings, I prefer to be located close enough, although away from the main group and do not expect food to be supplied by the couple. Many venues that I know will supply food to the photographer at no cost and often will offer it without being asked.

Ours are being fed and will be eating with us but purely because they are both friends doing us a favour - if we were hiring someone I would offer to feed them but not a clue where I would sit them!! Not much help, I know!!
