Where can I find a dress similar to this

Random Name, 28 July, 2011 at 13:55 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hi all

Have seen this online and really like the look of them. I know that Dessy dresses are expensive so does anyone know where I could find similar style dresses please?

We are having 4 bridesmaids so dont want to spend more than £80 each if I can help it. Am not sure if it will be cheaper to just get them made? I know Coast do some nice ones but even with my nus discount they are about outside my price range

Thanks in advance

They are lovely and quite simple designs so maybe a dress maker could do them cheaper for you

Debenhams have got some lovely ones at the moment, not sure if this is quite the colour you are looking for.

A couple of these were £100, some were £40. Hope this helps Smiley smile

I got my bridesmaid's Dessy dresses from Houseofbrides.com They worked out around £140 each instead of the £190-£220 in bridal shops over here. And that included the tax and import fees that I took into account when deciding to order from America.

ETA: My dresses are full length so some of the short Dessy dresses would probably cost less.

Sorry to hijack your thread LMR but SoontobeMrsB I just looked at Houseofbrides and the dresses that I was hoping to get are on there much cheaper. How do you work out the cost of the tax and import fees? ?

LMR have you decided against the Birmingham lady now?

Yes, mine arrived a couple of weeks ago. On the website there's a sizing chart & if you go by that the sizes are pretty much spot on. One of my dresses fits perfectly but the other is way too small. That's because we ordered the wrong size though (but that's another BM not wanting to order a larger size story). I'd say if you've got any doubt about the size to order the next one up as we all know it's easier to take a dress in than let it out.

I'm really pleased with them. They're Dessy dresses so you know they're nice. The only thing I would say is that I've read some reviews about people being sent the wrong order/wrong colour dress. From what I could see, this mainly seems to be a problem when people have ordered different colour sashes on the dresses or ordered extra length. I know 2 other ladies who used HoB & they didn't have any problems.

If you can get your cousin to send them to you, you might even be able to avoid import fees as it won't obviously be from a company! I found a code online for $50 dollars off when you spend over a certain amount so it's worth having a look for that too.

Wiltshire Bride25: I had a look at the HMRC website. Check out the link & it's got loads of info about import fees. Mine worked out around £78 for $300 worth of dresses.

    Hope that helps
