Where do I start 'The Big Things'

stephanieeff, 15 April, 2012 at 09:27 Posted on Planning 0 5

We're getting Married in July 2014, and I want to organise as much as I can now. I'll be back at university for at least another 3 years come September. Juggling studies and a toddler while my other half works away Monday-Friday, I'm afraid my wedding planning will inevitably be pushed aside. So, what 'Big' things do you suggest I sort now? What can wait?

Obviously, there's:

The Venue (Provisionally Booked)
Reception
Photographer (found one, need info on his deposit)

...aaaaaaand I'm stumped.

We're trying to budget the things that don't matter hugely in the wedding, for example the majority of our budget is getting spent on the three things listed above, as they matter the most to us, so that's why I've almost got them sorted at this early stage. But what else should I get locked down in the next few months?

You could also book cars and reception entertainment in now if you wanted. I've got 5mths to go and can't really see a lot I can do immediately, we did book venue/cars/photographer/church all at 12mths before though.

We're getting married next March and we're sorting out the venue (civil ceremony), photographer and entertainment now as well as my dress. I do also have things like bridesmaid dresses, invitations/stationery but they could wait it just happens that I've seen what I wanted.

After venue, reception and photographer i would look to book: Transport, entertainment, florist, cake and videographer if ur having one. I'd also start wedding dress shoppin as i spent a good 6 months trawling round before evenually goin bk to the first shop i went to! And then it took 6 months to come xxxx

Thing is with starting the dress hunting too early is that a) the assistants can be snobby b) you might change your mind c) new designs might come out

I started looking about 18 months before, but I'm on my second dress!
