Where do you get your make up inspiration from?

Dot., 10 March, 2009 at 17:39 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

I know the usual advice is to go to Mac etc and have a make over. But unfortunately that isn't really an option for me at the minute.

I'm starting to age, my skin looks sallow despite plenty of water, excercise and a good diet. I'm losing weight steadily and would like to look more my age (29) than the old bag that I do. My hair cut isn't helping (very short, quite masculine) how I feel so good make up is really a must. I need the whole works, foundation, eyeshadow, lipstuff, mascara...but how do I know what to buy-what colours etc? And most of all, how do I know how to do it?

I suppose i'm after every day wear rather than going out make up. I can do the smoky eye thing fairly well and although that does need a revamp it isnt' as desperate as my almost non exisitent day make up.

Heylup! I do want to be womanly, honest.

This was me a few months ago! My solution was to go to lovely ladies at Benefit and they have re-vamped my make up and it takes less than 10 mins to do even with my 2 around my ankles! But I know you said that is not poss at the mo.

For me it is a good base that is easy to put on. I use tinted moisturiser, then a concealer to cover my many blemishes! Volumising black mascara, blusher on apples of cheeks and then a swosh of nude lip gloss .

In terms of how to choose colours it is the base that I think it the hardest. However, I see that Olay have a moisteriser with Max factor foundation in it that matches to your skin tone so that could help? You could then get a pinkish blusher or bronzing powder depending on what you want and then black mascara and a nude lip gloss.

Start with a kit so the colours are put together for you?

I'm currently liking bare minerals make up and many of their products come with how to guides.

I like the Benefit mini kits- some of which come with a make up lesson leaflet.

How about having a makeup lesson from a freelance makeup artist as then you can spend time one to one looking how to apply your makeup the way you want it. Also they will give you independent advice on what products to use rather than going to a makeup counter and the ladies pushing their brand products.

    Thank you all.

So Benefit might be the way to go then?

Three Northants Hitchers on one thread, whats that all about!

Are you me PookieDoodle? I've got all of those YouTubers on my faves list and just got into make up in a big way.

I've learnt so much from YouTube since December, it's great. I like Pinkiecharm for her reviews too.
