Where is everyone getting married?

GiddyPig1987, 3 May, 2015 at 21:09 Posted on Planning 0 31

Evening everyone, I just wondered what kind of places people were getting married and if anyone is getting married in an unusual place.

We are getting married at Chester Zoo.

We decided on the zoo because I am a zoologist and I am currently studying elephants for my PhD. We also got engaged with the elephants at Houston Zoo in Texas.

Ours is Greywalls in Gullane (East Lothian). It's absolutely beautiful. Hopefully the weather will be nice so we can have our ceremony in the garden there.

It's an Edwardian country house and both the building and the garden are listed.

We got married in the blacksmith's shop at Gretna. These days it seems like it's become kind of unusual cos people think Gretna is a cliche and don't want to go there anymore!

We got married in Sydney. Its a deconsecrated chapel with floor to roof windows & a view overlooking the sea. Reception was at a nearby club, also with seaviews.

Wow some amazing venues on here. Ours is an old monastry converted into a hotel. It's supposed to be very haunted!

    Oxenfoord Castle, Midlothian.

We looked at the likes of Grey Walls and and a few other homes and castles but without a marquee they weren't big enough and I spend my whole summers in beer tents and didn't want to essentially be in one for my wedding! Oxenfoord had the biggest in-house capactiy and even then I think we'll have to cut for evening! Its gorgous though, I love how its not a commercial building but a residential one, the owners lovely and the wedding coordinator is great. Cannot WAIT to get cracking with planning it!

I’m getting married at Nettle Hill (https://www.weddingsatnettlehill.com/).

We did toy with the idea of a Zoo but i think my numbers meant I couldn’t.

That's fab, Jen, your venue is beautiful. There are just 14 of us so Greywalls is perfect. Smiley smile We are just using the garden room there.

Gean House in Alloa for us! We fell madly in love with it the first time we walked through the doors. We both had butterflies and we could picture it all happening there!

    Gosh some very pretty venues!

I'm getting married in a Unitarian Church. Not particularly amazing, but I really love what Unitarianism stands for and it's a non-hypocritical way for me to have a church wedding.

Ooohhh some stunningly beautiful venues Smiley smile Were getting married in a converted 15th century converted barn, its beautiful and gives us both butterflies each time we see it. We have the whole place to ourselves for the day, its completely unpretentious and the staff are so helpful, cant wait!

Hellandglory what a beautiful venue you have picked, I just live along the road in Cullercoats. We are having a traditional church wedding at Holy Saviours Church in Tynemouth and then the wedding reception at The Grand Hotel Tynemouth. My fiancé is part of the RNLI lifeboat crew at Cullercoats so it was always important for us to get married at the coast, as it is such a big part of our lives.
