Where is everyone going on honeymoon?

MrsWinwood2B, 15 June, 2009 at 14:17 Posted on Planning 0 40

I just wondered where everyone is planning to go - mainly to get ideas for myself! My o/h and I are at an impasse after discussing loads of places, we realised that he wants an all inclusive resort, which I think I'd find quite boring, whereas I want some adventure, animals and stunning scenery, all of which sends him running for the medicine cabinet (hypochondriac extrodinaire...). It's a shame as we've agreed about everything for the wedding so far, and now we're stuck! As we're spending more than we ever have for a holiday, it seems there's a lot of pressure for it to be perfect. Anybody else in a similar situation with agreeing on honeymoon destinations?

Oooh I feel your pain. We spent months going round in circles trying to agree on something. He first of all wanted something like the Maldives but I would be seriously bored after a couple of days. Then we wanted Las Vegas for a few days and somewhere beachy afterwards. We didn't want to be flying too far for this but all the closest options we ruled out. Well, he did really - he didn't fancy Hawaii (for no good reason, just said it didn't appeal!), he didn't want mainland USA, I ruled out anywhere in the hurricane belt as well. Literally the only place we could agree on was Malaysia so we are having 4 nights in Kuala Lumpur and 10 in Penang. We've booked two lovely hotels that look really posh but are also close to all the culture and 'authentic' bits as well.

Similar to nicky and CD, we're having 4 nights in bangkok and 10 in koh samui. we debated AI resorts in places like the maldives, but decided we'd get too bored. we also discussed a driving holiday down the east coast of the USA, but that was too far the other way (plus h2b has only recently passed his test, and wouldn't be able to drive abroad!)

there's some interesting tourist-y stuff in both bangkok and KS, while we can still enjoy a relaxing beach stay in KS. we've also got the option of going to the full moon party on koh phangan as it's on whilst we're in KS, but i'm not sure it's the type of place to celebrate your honeymoon.... ?

We're off to New York, honeymoon is in September and wedding was in April - can't wait! We went on a short break to the Isle of Man straight afterwards though. We chose New York because it's our favourite place to go, we're just making it more special by getting a posher hotel than usual and taking more spending money!

Have you thought of somewhere like Mexico? Plenty of all inclusives but if you go somewhere like Puerto Del Carmen it's easy to go off on adventures to ancient ruins and things.

    Hi

our honeymoon is similar to the things you have described !

1 week in mauritius on beach relaxing

1 week in cape town SA - 3 days in city, 2 at a private game reserve and 2 at a secluded forest lodge

we wanted to relax in luxury and then to do something really amazing and once in a lifetime sort of !!

We're off to Huvafen Fushi in the Maldives for our Honeymoon - it's pure luxury and we're going next May as we seriously need to save up as it's ridonkulously expensive! We're off to Edinburgh for a stay in The Witchery for our mini moon straight after the wedding - we're absolute slobs so an inactive honeymoon for us is key!

Another New Yorker here! Going for 5 nights in December, chosen because we do the carribean AI as our usual holiday, OH is less tolerant of other cultures so that ruled out LOADS of places and he plays hockey and has always wanted to go see a NHL match and you've got to go New York at Christmas lol

Leni, last time we went to ny was December before last, it was amazing! Make sure you wrap up warm, it's freezing! We didn't see a NHL game but we did make it to an NBA game, which was really cool. Where abouts are you staying?

We also struggled with finding somewhere with the right level of activity on offer, somewhere we were unlikely to go to on a normal holiday and somewhere not in hurricane territory. H2b has always wanted to do Vegas for either his 30th, stag or HM, as it turns out all 3 are happening in the same month. From Vegas we wanted to find somewhere else for more of a beach holiday. We ruled out Hawaii for no real reason, it just didn't take our fancy. So we are now doing 5 nights in Vegas, followed by 10 nights in Fiji with the Fiji part split between two AI hotels.

We were in a similar situation - felt like it should be somewhere amazing as it was our HONEYMOON, not just a holiday. We were looking at Seychelles but realised we would actually rather be in Italy!

So we are going to Venice for 3 nights, then off to Sardinia at a HB hotel for 8 nights... cannot wait.

Sarah Kay, heli08 and nicky167 - did you book yours yourselves or go through a travel agent? If so which one did you use? Yours all sound like things we've been looking at, but we got so confused by all the different options!

We booked ours through a travel agent. H2b did it all (his only job!), he did a lot of work with an independent agent but actually booked through a different company, I can't remember the name of it, but it's owned by my friend and I just gave her the details, she was only a little cheaper than the travel agent, but the selling point was that at that time we were going to use their 'honeymoon wedding present account' to help pay for it. That's now changed and we aren't doing that but kept the booking.

Once we'd narrowed down the locations we looked into the hotels and reviews ourself to decide on which hotels.

Another thing to bear in mind is the currency - the USD part of our HM is much more expensive than it would have been a couple of years ago!

We are off to an All Inclusive to Egypt for 2 weeks

Lots of reasons really - we love all inclusive, we have always wanted to go, i hate and i mean hate flying so 5 hours is more than enough for me, and plus we didnt want to do the whole sight seeing ect ect.

We have 2 children and never had a holiday alone before so we knew we wanted to do the lazy days round the pool & Beach plus loads of snorkelling.

We have made it alot posher by booking all the upgrades there is tho lol

We're hoping to do Vietnam, Hong KOng, Bankok and then a few days on a beach, maybe phuket....

we're sacrificing our hols this year to save up and decided that if we were going to have a hm then we wanted something once in a lifetime type thing.

We get wed in feb but are going in Aug (teacher!!!) so think it might be in middle of rainy season but we don't mind - just want to experience it all.

i love the idea of secluded exotic beach but have to say think i'd be board after couple of days so need the adventurey bit too lol

Have done centre parcs when i was younger and there is masses to do - think with hms you will have a wicked time whereever you go Smiley smile

We're staying 2 weeks all inclusive in Kenya including a 3 night safari excursion in the Masi Mara.....very excited. We had a similar problem as we needed to do something semi active to keep the other half away from getting bored and heading to the bar / football on tele too frequently! Hopig this will keep him occupied.....fingers crossed!

    Hope that helps

Burke to be- Center Parcs is awesome! You have nothing to feel ashamed about! It is amazing value for money for accommodation but once you get there EVERYTHING costs money! ? The good thing is, like you say, you can take your own food and drink! There is literally something to do everyday and the spa is amazing!

We go once every couple of years and they are some of the best holidays we've had! You will have an absolutely fabulous time! I've only been to the Oasis Whinfell Forest (been about 10 times, haha), which one is closest to you?

WE haven't decided yet. We were looking at maybe only going somewhere in this country due to budget, or at a stretch Italy or New York.

But now we have been very lucky to have 2 very generous offers of having a honeymoon bought for us. We are now looking at maybe a week in San Francisco and a week in Hawaii and (depending on how much time I can get off work) maybe a few days in New York too!

We're going to Port Isaac in Cornwall - or should I say Port Wenn - the home of Doc Martin! We sat watching it on TV last year and thought how lovely and quaint it looks so when we decided that we'd need to honeymoon in the UK we couldn't think of anywhere better! They weather may end up being rubbish but I'm going to invest in some groovy wellies and a raincoat. We're staying in a lovely little cottage - I can't wait ?
