Where to go...thinking Caribbean

endsor, 16 March, 2012 at 14:10 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 9

Hi everyone,

Had a great weekend with some travel brochures and I think the OH and I have decided on the Caribbean. We both usually go for adventure holidays and I think for once we want something much more relaxed with gorgeous beaches, etc. However, there is so much to choose from and I have no idea where to even begin.

Our initial thoughts are somewhere inclusive (as I hear eating out can get very expensive). Room / suite that isn't in a big block (we want it to feel special and different and not just like any other hotel). Preferably adults only so we can relax in the pools without little ones (love them, but I want to be able to relax). Mainly we want a place where we can veg out for a few days and then go exploring if the mood takes us.

Anyone have any ideas on where to go? It doesn’t necessarily need to be the Caribbean either.

Dx

We are doing exactly what you have described - have a look at Sandals as they are all adult only resorts with 5 star luxury all inclusive. We chose to go to Emerald Bay in the Bahamas and we are treating ourselves to a bulter! ?

In my opinion, the Caribbean really is the perfect polace to go for relaxing AND active holidays! I went in 2009 to the Dominican Republiuc and it was amazing! So much to do, excursions, water activities, etc. But so amazing just relaxing on the beach too. And the people are amazing, so so so friendly. Stunning place! I really want to try another island in the Caribbean for our honeymoon.

    I'd highly recommend it.

I'm a bit biased as its the only place in the Caribbean I've been too and I'm half Jamaican but Jamaica is an amazing place! It's. Really beautiful country, amazing beaches, lovely friendly and funny people, clear blue oceans. There's loads to do to and some great trips like dunns river falls which u can climb up , when I went we went on a boat ride along a river where crocodiles live and we got right up close to them, the boat driver was even feeding them by hand! There's a great vibe in Jamaica, so relaxed and friendly with reggae music playing everywhere u go. And the food is brilliant too.

We had a brilliant time in Jamaica a few years ago. We were out there for a friend's wedding. They stayed in a Sandals resort but we stayed in a Hilton resort down the road. If you want something that's not in a big block, the Sandals resort had little villas which were set apart from each other's, some with swim up entrances! The villas themselves were a little shabby (our hotel was much more modern, better air con etc) but it was adults only and had a massive choice of restaurants. You coudl do all sorts of trips and excursions, which would suit what you're after.

We're going to Fiji as part of our honeymoon and then on to the states. I'd have been happy to sit on a beach for 2 weeks, but OH isn't too keen on that, and wanted to "do" stuff too.

I went to the National Wedding show at Birmingham and got talking to Lesley from White Sands Weddings, she sent me an e-mail which included an itinerary and prices for Barbados, St Lucia and Jamaica. They were pretty reasonable too, we were looking at the Rendezvous resort in St Lucia - it looks perfect!

She is very knowledgeable and you get the personal service you might not get with Thomson, First Choice etc.
