where to have a song sung in the ceremony

ellebob, 13 October, 2012 at 15:31 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi. We have decided that instead of having a reading at the ceremony my sister is going to sing a song. I'm just not sure the best point in the ceremony to do this? It's a register office ceremony so will be very basic. We're also allowed to play one track on a cd either walking in or walking out but I'm not sure if I should just have instrumental so it doesn't detract from my sister singing?

    We were allowed 5 at our civil ceremony, it must be different in other area's.

    My niece sang as my (and bridesmaids) entrance song.

    Probably during the signing of the register would be the most obvious point for her - if she's doing it as you're coming in/going out then you won't hear all of it!

    I've only been to one register office wedding and they went to another room to sign the register so I didn't even realise that was an option. I'd better check with the office!

    We're having a civil wedding (but not in a registry office) and the music keeps stumping me... (I'm a bit of a muso...). Which music are you considering? I'm thinking we need one down the aisle (maybe insturmental), one for signing the register and one for walking back down. Bloke says I'm not allowed to playlist the whole wedding (he knows he'd not see me in the next 8 months!). I can also sing, but think it may be a bit tacky/cheesy for me to sing at my own wedding... any thoughts?

    As I said before we had 5 songs,

    * as guests got seated

    *as I walked in

    * 2 for signing the register and tog/friends taking photo's

    * as we all left.

    We had to notify the registrar of our choices before hand as your music choice must not contain any religious references.

    I've sung at a couple of church weddings and one civil wedding. In the civil wedding, my friend and I did a duet as the bride walked down the aisle, then we each did a solo at some random point during the ceremony. The registrar just introduced us and we went up and sang.

    She's singing Make You Feel My Love. We're having a naming ceremony for my daughter at the reception and she's singing Forever Young for her then which is why we want the other song at the ceremony as it might be a bit too much.

    I don't think it's cheesy to sing at your own wedding but it might be better to do it at the reception, maybe at the same time as speeches? People don't expect to hear from the bride and groom in the ceremony except for the vows.

    I've only shot one wedding where the bride has sung to her fella, I thought it was nice but you could hear the guests making negative comments... It's your day though, do whatever you feel is best for you both!
