Where's good for buying carpets?

Treasure, 3 July, 2008 at 10:54 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

I am about to carpet the whole house and haven't a clue where is good and where's not. Any recommendations? There's an Allied Carpets and a Carpet Right near me, does anyone have any experience of either? I don't know if carpet shops vary massively in price and service or whether they all do the same job.

Thanks in advance

I would say neither of those and find yourself a nice independent shop instead. We've had most of our house done in the last 18mths and the level of knowledge and advice we've got from them has been amazing. No pressure, no upselling, and guidance in what works and what doesn't depending on wear, content, patterns etc etc.

Oh and we checked their prices against the "bargain 60% off megasale etc" in teh carpetright next door. Still cheaper, including fitting.

I'd recommend independent and local as well

I've staggered home under the weight of carpet samples to ensure we got exactly the right colour

I suppose you might not get any interest-free or delayed payment deals as you might from the big stores, but I'd rather support the local stores

I own a carpet shop, so am biased but I can assure you we are always cheaper than the likes of Carpet etc on exactly the same products.

I would also recommend an independent - we have a carpet warehouse in our village, and whilst I probably wouldve paid the same at a chain, the quality of the one we bought is much much better. We then got a local tradesman to fit (rather than the store) so I don't know how costs compare, but he was doing other work for us

Thanks everyone. I will have a look and see what independents are in my area.
