Which book would you make into a film?

Kadypants, 10 June, 2012 at 21:13 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 25

If you could choose any book to be made into a film what would you choose?

I'd choose Katy Carter Wants a Hero by Ruth Saberton. I absolutely LOVE this book. Its definitely very chick lit and would probably make a film similar to the style of Bridget Jones' Diary. It'd be a great rom-com me thinks!

I would choose 'Summer Sisters' by Judy Blume, as it's one of my favourites and I think it would make a nice film.

Aw Aurora, you've made me remember my favourite book when I was younger - Tiger Eyes, Judy Blume - loved that book, I need to read it again!

I can't pick one book so here are 3 I would love to see as films!

The Book Thief - Markus Zusak - not sure how they would do it, but could be amazing

    Room - Emma Donoghue

    Rachel's Holiday - Marian Keyes

I read the other week that there is a movie in development of this - I hope so!! I love a bit of Marian.

I'm not sure what I'd pick to be made into a movie - the last time I got excited over a movie adaptation of a book I love, I was a bit let down. Maybe the other Dan Brown ones would be good though.

I need to get my Kindle fixed so I can read this again.

There's no book I'd want turned into a film TBH. I always feel let down as they always seem to change too much, and i'm left feeling disappointed or annoyed.

I always think the books are much better than the films, but I think as long as you read the book first then you don't miss out. there have been some great films from books such as Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter and some rubbish ones like Northern Lights (The Golden Compass film).

I think any of Emily Barrs novels would be good.

Oh yes, good thinking! They would make fab films.

Ebony Rose - Love that you loved Room - I might read it again one of these days ?

I don't mind films being different from the books, after all they are adaptions, and are going to go in a different direction sometimes, but it's true that I'm often disappointed just because they're not done that well; My sisters keeper being a prime example!

What have you done to it? Mine was in my handbag (in a cover) and smashed the screen and Amazon sent me another for £40 (out of warranty repair for a Wifi Kindle Keyboard) and have me 30 days to send the old one back after I had cleared my content (and they arranged and paid for the courier to collect)

I think Emma Donoghue said she'll sell the rights so it can be made into a film but I just can't imagine it being as good as the book.

I just finished reading 'Me before You'...I cried. I think it'd make a good film.

Although I agree that the film is never as good as the book (especially My Sisters Keeper and The Lovely Bones, horrific).

Oh man I forgot about the lovely bones! Not as bad as my sister's keeper but really not good! Some friends who hadn't read the book said they quite liked it, which still surprised me - as a stand alone film I still don't think I'd approve ? It 'looked' nice though, if you know what I mean - well shot, etc.

I would be really interested to see how they would film Room, but agree it could no way be as good, I'm sure they'd still have Jack narrate some of it but it couldn't be as powerful.

I agree about The Lovely Bones, book was good, but film was pants!

I would love to see Rainbow Six, by Tom Clancy as a film. It was so good, about 700 pages but I could not put it down! You can see why they sent loads of special forces etc to the Sydney Olympics.

Speaking of my sisters keeper i'd vote for all the jodie picoult boos or diane chamberlains, but going by what they did to MSK maybe not.

I find this with most of the films they have made from my favourite books.

I am currently horrified with the fact that apparently they are making one of Lee Child's books into a film. Tom Cruise in lead as Jack Reacher! WFT!?!?! Jack is supposed to be 6'3" and built like the side of a barn. Not creepy elf Tom Cruise. Tom Hardy would fit the role better. Well disappointed :-(

    Ridiculous isn't it?

I felt the same as well when I saw him in a trailer for Rock of Ages.

Ditto. I get a sinking feeling of dread when I hear that a book I like is being made into a film. With the exception of Nineteen Eighty-Four, they're always a disappointment and sometimes a total travesty. One of my favourite things about reading a book is how drawn into the story I find myself. That sense of complete immersion just can't be replicated by a film, essentially because all of the 'imagining' has been done for you. I like to create scenes and characters' appearances and mannerisms for myself. Someone else's interpretation of that just isn't as good.

I've really found that I enjoy the Game of Thrones tv series much less now that I've read the books too.

I listened to a radio programme last week, where they were discussing the possibility of making a film of The Catcher In The Rye. Apparently, Salinger was wholly against it in his lifetime but there seems to be support gathering for it now. Apart from the potential for Hollywood to ruin any decent story, I simply cannot see how this would make a good film.

The screen broke on my first one, Amazon replaced it.

My second lasted a month before the screen froze. Tried all of their troubleshooting tips online, so got to phone them up again.

I totally agree that films tend to ruin the overall experience of reading favourite books once you've seen the film version. But I still enjoy the anticipation of wondering who will be cast as which character and whether or not they'll include all the details that I love from the book! And I have to admit I really enjoy complaining about what they cut out or which characters they change once the film version is released!!

This! What were they thinking? Apparently Lee Child suggested it and said that Reacher's size is just "a metaphor" whatever that's supposed to mean.

I want them to turn The Tales of the Otori into a film, but I reckon i'd have to be on the casting, directing, editing, art and design boards if they did. I would be gutted if they ruined the books.
