Which dessert would you prefer?

LEA2012, 4 October, 2012 at 10:14 Posted on Planning 0 28

Hello all, so we had our menu tasting last night at our venue and so pleased as it was amazing!! Anyway, we can't decide between 2 desserts as they were both just so yummy!! (I'm not a dessert person really and so to find two that I like is unheard of!!)

For starter we have gone for chicken liver parfait with toasted brioche, onion chutney and beetroot salad, main course is chicken forestiere with a bacon, mushroom and tomato sauce, roasted veg and potatoes. What would you prefer after that -

Chocolate tart - Individual chocolate tarts in a pastry case, very indulgent and yummy but quite heavy and filling, my fiance couldnt finish the whole thing and he's a chocolate dessert fiend!

Tropical fruit pavlova - this was a ring of meringue with a chocolate coating on the top then a ring of cream, a mixture of tropical fruits in the middle and mango sauce. Was delicious!

I keep going back to pavlova as it was gorgeous, something a bit different and also refreshing and quite 'light' but then the chocolate was so scrumptious...!

I came away from the meal 'satisfied' whereas my fiance (who had the chocolate tart) was 'stuffed'....which would you prefer?? Thanks! ?

Personally, i would go for the pavlova as im not fussy on "chocolatey" puds. Plus if its heavy and filling, would guests be able to eat it all after the starter and puds?

PS Your starter and main sound delish!

Pavlova for me too! I'm also not keen on really chocolate-y desserts and would probably find it a bit heavy x

Your first two courses sound quite filling and I think it would be nice to go for a light, refreshing pavlova. Chocolate tart is a bit of a safe choice, but you don't want your guests to be stuffed because they'll then feel quite tired and lethargic.

Although I'm not really a chocolate person, I'm even less a tropical fruit person. The pavlova contains things I'd rather not eat (cream, mango, also kiwi?). So, if I were choosing, it would be chocolate pudding, as I'd think it a "safer" bet. I'd bear in mind that the meal for your wedding will take longer than at a menu tasting, so you might not be quite so full before pudding.

    Errr neither [blush]

As much as I love chocolate, sometimes chocolate desserts can be too heavy and bitter for me. I'm not a massive dessert person though, I'd rather have cheese and biscuits than something sweet.

I'm a chocoholic, so I would say the chocolate tart! However, I'm sure the pavlova would appeal to more people, especially at the end of a meal, so I'd go with that Smiley smile

Pavlova, love choccy puds but would prefer a lighter option if there is a chance I might be hitting the dance floor later on

Pavlova I think, people will be wearing nice clothes which can tend to be more restrictive than day to day clothes so may want something light rather than left feeling heavy! Also when I get stuffed I get sleepy...you wouldn't want your other guests doing the same :o)

My tummy has just audibly rumbled.

I'd go for the chocolate tart - it's a safer option.

Pavolva! If your OH came away stuffed and you statisfied then you don't want your guests being stuffed otherwise they will be wanting to lie down as opposed to getting up and dancing!

Both please! Mini versions of each? If I had to choose I'd probably go with the pavlova after that main (even though I'm a chocoholic). But as others have said the chocolate tart may be a safer option.

Pavlova. I'm not a chocolate person, but that aside, you have 2 chicken dishes, and chicken is quite a "light" meat. So a light dessert will complement it better than something overly rich and heavy.

I once went to a wedding where the girls and boys had different desserts. I think the guys had a heavier option and the girls something light and fruity. Would you consider this? People can always swap if they want to then.

Ooh I would hate this. I can see it causing many an argument. OP I'd probably ask a few of my guests and see what the general consensus was.

Pavlova for me - while I love chocolate, I don't really like chocolate puddings. I also hate feeling too full, so that would put me off the chocolate one too.

    Mmmm.... pavlova ?

I would choose chocolate tart any day, but having said that overall I think the lighter pavlova would prove more popular and it is also a little bit different, which is always nice at a wedding.

I'd go for the pavlova-personal choice- I find some chocolate puddings a bit claggy and filling ,but anything with fresh cream and meringue has my vote !

If the wedding was in the middle of winter, then I'd consider the choc option.

If its any other time, the pavlova is the best option & gets my vote.

Pavlova is my all time favourite - I like chocolate but not chocolatey things! My OH would go for choc option though as he doesn't like meringue at all.

If you can only choose one I'd go for the one you like best!!!
