Which gig do you regret not going to?

AuntieBJ, 6 June, 2014 at 10:02 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 20

Coming off the back of previous posts - is there a gig/concert/festival that you really really wish you could have attended but couldn't?

For me, I would have loved to go to Glastonbury but never could when I was younger and now feel I'm probably too old (plus slightly horrified by the cost!!)

I also wish I'd been able to see Robbie Williams at Knebworth because I think that was a once in a lifetime experience that I will never get the chance to say 'I was there...' for

I wish I'd seen the original lineup of GNR. I think in their heyday I was just too young.

I would have loved to see System of a Down live, pretty much anywhere.

Nirvana at Reading Festival in 1991. Was offered tickets but couldn't afford it at the time.

Bekki - you are NEVER too old for Glastonbury. There are all ages there. Last year was chatting to a couple in their 60s who go every year. They were dressed as bumble bees so may also have been barking but still. Borrow a campervan and go in the campervan fields - very civilised.

This. I saw them while they were still big but without Izzy and Steve. I didn't appreciate them prior to the period though so not sure if that counts and I was definitely too young when AFD was released.

I wish I'd seen NIN last month. I was worried I might pop a baby and didnt want to travel too far from home, but I'm still pregnant now so totally could have!

Randomly...Take That on their Circus tour. I considered it but was skint, but everyone has always said how amazing it was.

It really was amazing. Sorry, don't mean to rub it in.

I wish I'd seen Take That at the peak of their 90s fame. My mum and I were planning to get tickets for the next tour, but then they announced their split. Devastated!

I wish i'd have been around 60's and 70's to see The Beatles, Queen, The Move, T-Rex, Slade, Hendrix, Janis Joplin etc. Also Fleetwood mac, I know they tour now but it's never the same all those years later.

I've missed a few bands here that I've been too skint to go and see like The Datsuns, Brody Dalle etc but none that are a massive deal.

I wish i'd have caught Nirvana and RATM live! Bekki..you're never too old for any music festivals / gigs so don't let that stop you!

For me The Smiths and Nirvana. They are clearly never going to happen now. As well as the White Stripes which is more realistic!

I second this! I had my first Glasto experience last year and we're going back for round 2 this year. We do it 'civilised' and loved the atmosphere of the camper fields- last year we had a young couple with 2 babies behind us, and to the left we had a guy celebrating his 50th- all ages!

Excluding bands/artists with deaths before I was a teenager, or being way too old now to be any good, my 'wish I'd seen' list includes: Nirvana, The Libertines. That's about it really, there are no other key gaps in my gigging history. The Stone Roses were part of that list until a couple of years ago!

Oh no, just remembered. I really regret not seeing the Chemical Brothers in Manchester about eight years ago, mostly because I'd spent £50 on tickets and got my weeekends mixed up....

Have thought of another genuine 'wish I'd seen': Underworld.

I've been to most of the gigs I really really wanted to go to; Elbow, Muse, Coldplay, U2...

But bizarrely the one that got away for me wasn't anything to do with rock/alternative music, it was Beyonce. I tried desperately for 3 days to get tickets to her Mrs Carter Show, but failed miserably. I sat there refreshing the screen at 9am each day when the tickets went on sale and got nothing. I was gutted, especially when other people bragged online about how easy it was to get tickets (yeah, right!?). I refused to pay silly money to buy tickets off eBay so I never went. I just think she'd be awesome live and I really wish I'd been able to go.

Oh well, Foo Fighters will be touring soon and Dave Grohl always makes it better....

I saw Queen at Knebworth 1986 one of their last tours I believe. IT WAS THE BEST EVER! I saw Fleetwood Mac in 1988/9. Amazing.

Live Aid is the one I wish I gone to, I was on hols when it happened and watched on tv instead
