Which make up brand?

Vintage84, 2 July, 2012 at 13:02 Posted on Planning 0 15

Good Afternoon Ladies!

Just wondered if anyone can recommend a make up brand, specifically one that is good at long lasting foundation for shiny t-zone skin!! I'm going to be doing my own make up on the day and want to splash out on a few really good essentials and a proper make up lesson so I know how to apply it all. But there are so many brands out there, which one do I go for?

I love benifit make up but agree that you should go to a department store and get some tried out.

The MUAs on here have been super helpful in the past and highlighted that Estee Lauder Double wear can reflect too much light when getting professional photos and I believe the mineral products are similar however some OMs have reported back that they had no probs. On the advice of an MUA here I got Dior Forever Foundation but used the in-style beauty awards to help me buy other products. No one brand will do the best in every product so best shopping about and seeing what suits you! I got nars blusher and highlighters, bobbi brown eye colours and eyeliner, shu uemura colourless powder, mac brow pencil, chanel lipstick, benefit bronzer and concealer and a lancome mascara. I've spent a small fortune but it'll last me months and I'll enjoy it on honeymoon! Plus I may as well enjoy it while I can as it'll NEVER happen again! LOL!

I have a shiny face and think the Bare Escentuals / Minerals is fab. they do a make under, they do half your face, you do the other half.

Good luck with whatever you decide. x

I had been told in no uncertain terms to avoid Bare Essentials/Minerals for the wedding because they reflect light and make you look washed out! It's so confusing! I think I'll have to try some different ones and have some photos taken to see, but I don't want to spend a fortune on stuff I'll never wear again if it doesn't work.

I second this. If you have any imperfections and oily/shiney patches, Diorskin forever flawless is very good and I have been searching and trying LOADS of foundations in the last couple of months. It give super duper coverage without looking cakey. It also has phenominal stying power. Apply with a good quality foundation bursh for a flawless finish. If necessary set with a light dust of trannslucent powder, especiallyif you will then apply a brozer or blusher, I like the No7 powder. Then spray with make-up forever mist and fix spray before applying the rest of your make up. Although I have head spraying your entire face with hairspray also gives extra staying power/less transfer, but I can't go around telling people to spray hairspray in their faces!

My other recommendations to try out are:

MAC for eyeshadows is a must

Benefit Hoola brozer is my fave

Lips, always prime with a little foundation when you do your base. I like MAC cream sheen lipsticks or clinique butter shine.

Semi-permenant eyelash extensions are the dogs danglies!

Also, Dior is very good at giving out smaple pots of foundations so you can apply a full-face at home.

Clinique/MAC wil also test eyeshadows and lipsticks. As will benefit.

Just try try try before you buy. It's free!

Try No 7 perfect cover foundation, it was recommended to me by my wedding make up lady, its great for shiny patches, really light and lasts all day. I mix two shades to get the colour I like. really worth asking for a trial at the counter

Another recommendation for the Diorskin Forever Flawless- I bought a decent foundation brush which really helped, and it lasted really well.

It was me who recommended Dior Forever Foundation - I'm glad you're all as impressed with it as I am. I've recently found an amazing brush to apply it with - Real Techniques Stippling Brush - available from larger Boots. Another new find for people with super oily skin is Mac Prep and Prime SPF50 primer. Just apply a thin layer and leave to sit for a few minutes before you apply the Dior Foundation. Juliet x

    Hiya

I'm going to do my own make up too. A few months before the big day i'm going to go to our local Selfridges and ask the girls on one of the make up counters (probably MAC or Bobbi Brown) to do my make up for me and then i'm going to buy whatever they use so i can re-create it on the day. Not going to buy every single thing they use as no doubt they'll deliberately use all sorts but i'm just going to buy the important bits - foundation, eyeshadow, blusher, lipstick

MAC MAC MAC! My skin is exactly like yours, and I'm also doing my own make up. I have 7 trials with different brands, early in the morning and 'wore' it all day. I felt MAC lasted the best by far, and then I paid for a make up lesson and they guided me through putting it on; although it cost £50, it didn't *really* because then I got £50 knocked off my products. Amazing stuff; I've been using it ever since, so I feel really confident and my make up on the day.

I swear by Clinique. I've always worn it since a very kind friend pointed out that my foundation was a bit orange about 7 years ago and took me for a make over - lol! It looks really natural and lasts all day.

I went with my friend for a Clinique wedding make up trial in Debenhams a few years ago, watched how they applied it, she bought the products and I did her make up for her on her wedding day. The girls were really helpful and she looked beautiful on the day.

I'm very lucky that my cousin works for them, so she will be doing my make up on my day. I may go for gorgeous MAC eye colours though...

    Hi

Bare Minerals is excellent. You can have a trial if you go to their counter in debenhams or other dept store too. QVC sell it too in kits. There are several starter kit for £24 at the moment so good value for quality brand. ps. i don`t work for them , just love their make up

I just watched a couple of videos (recommended on another thread) and one of them is for budge-proof makeup for hot and humid climates. It's really good (although I'm not keen on the final look - I'd choose different shades for myself) and worth a watch: http://www.lisaeldridge.com/video/7511/a-summer-rose-bridal-look/
