which sewing machine would you recommend?

Hi all,

I'm thinking about investing in a decent sewing machine and wondered if any of you guys have one that you would particularly recommend?

I'll be using this for general sewing, and perhaps using some heavier fabrics later, eg. curtains, and lightweight leather....

Any suggestions??
