Which venue... eek!

tressls, 10 April, 2011 at 19:47 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi again ladies (and gents!)...

I have booked my reception venue-

except obv the tables would be round.

The 2nd is a smaller venue- another S&L club/village hall. The room (peeked through windows) is long and rectangular with a small bar and wooden/laminate flooring. There are windows all around the room. The tables are rectangular (she said on the phoen large seat about 10, smaller about 6). The room is from 5.30-12.30 and is £150. That includes bar and use of kitchen but you must provide your own DJ and catering. I do have a friend (2) who are chefds and do catering anyway but they are guests too. However I know he would be happy to do it after the wedding (early wedding). Not sure of cost though as would need to buy food, plates, napkins etc. Dj's are about £140 from what I gather. Anyway this is 'Ridgeway Sports & Leisure club'- also maybe known as the Tennis Club or village hall? It is in a nice looking village and has a field in front of it that they use to play football etc on. And a few benches out front. She did say there is a cricket match on that day and the players would be allowed in the corridor, toilets etc (not in the main room). Think until about 8? But she said a lot of them will go to the pub for tea if there is a big function on. The room can only hold 120 people max for insurance purposes... so as I am close I need to see who plans on bringing other halves, kids etc or tell them no.

picture I found here-

Which one would you choose? Sorry I cant find any better photos.

I am having chair covers by a lady on here BTW- white with purple sashes, and balloons. Just need to find cheap tablecloth hire.

Hmmm....the second room looks a bit lighter, which I like, but practically it poses a few more problems, what with you having to sort a caterer, DJ and the maximum numbers being 120 - although there is some outside space which would be great. I think the first one is the best deal in terms of no hassle and very good price, but the second one has outside space and looks like a brighter room, so how important are those two things to you?

They both will look fantastic all done up though, so well done on finding two lovely rooms! ?

Oooh I just dont know... like you say the first one is an all in price (already paaid £50 if it which I would lose). But I know it would be easy to sort a DJ and catering my friend is a really good chef but he works with another lad, also a friend but I just know this lad would expect payment so it's about finding out how much itll be I suppose... I reckon I could narrow it down to 120 people though as it's probably about that now. But the 2nd one althoguh smaller looks prettier IMO with the light and the floor... just be more cramped I guess but then there is the outfoor field which would be good for kids as it;s not sectioned off or anything, have walked across there myself on a walk in the woods before. Both areas are nice, but the 2nd is a little more quaint- although it is in Sheffield it is in a lot of green fields and has lots of nice houses, pretty flowers etc. The 1st isn;t a dump either but is a little more built-up. Oooooooh I dunno! I am guessing decs for the 2nd might be a bit cheaper (not much) just as itll be less tables to dress? Maybe wrong though. The other bonus of the 2nd is the earlier open/later close. But then its a bit harder to get to. ARRRGH! So indecisive! x

The 2nd one looks like it has more light and has the benefit of somewhere to go outside for some guests. The first one looks bigger and has plenty of parking. Difficult to decide really but both can be dressed up. Finding your own caterer isn't a bad thing as you can have more input into your food options.

It sounds to me like you prefer the second one! I think it's lovely too - you should go for the second one, especially as you get the outside space which is almost like getting an extra room for free!

Once you find out the extra costs (mainly for the second chef) I think you should seriously consider the second one - and if, for whatever reason, you can't get the second room (cost, availability etc) then you have nothing to worry about as you already have the first place booked with a deposit paid! It's a win win situation when you look at it that way ? xx

I would prefer the second especially if it is a spring summer wedding as with alot of people you can under estimate how stuffy it would get with no windows!

    Hi

I think the first venue looks more spacious and will give you more flexibility.

I really dislike being squashed in but then it is hard to tell from just one pic!

I'd be a bit nervous about the impact of the cricketers at the second one - they overlap with you for quite a while. Presumably there will also be spectators around. But the timings do look better though.
