which videography style is best?

Bee26, 25 June, 2013 at 17:03 Posted on Planning 0 4

I am on the verge of booking a vog, ive found some great ones with good prices and in the end its coming down to which style I decide to go for, a 20-30 minute cinematic film (with speeches and ceremony in fill included as seperate chapters) or a longer 50 - 90 minute journalistic style film. Half of me thinks we are spending so much money that I want the film to be as long as possible, the other half says aside from the ceremony and speeches the footage wont be as a watchable.

What are your opinions, particularly those who've had a wedding vid themselves?

I had a video at my first wedding and it was quite long. Watched it once.

It's the longevity of it. Me, personally I would be more inclined to watch a shorter vid multiple times than think 'God no not another two hour video...let's go out instead'.

Whilst many will advocate a long vid that's fine if it's just for you. If it's for friends and family or your other half their needs may differ. Less is often more. A 20-30 minuter is very much quality vs quantity in it's approach so long as you get the ceremony and speeches on a different disc.

Otherwise it could be likened to watching Eastenders on repeat. ?

We've opted for the shorter cinematic style wedding film too. We're good friends with our VOG and they (the short edits) came highly recommended to us.

As Chris said, you'll be more inclined to watch something shorter time and again- whereas the longer films are a bit of a mission!

I personally much prefer the shorter edits, but it really depends what you want from your film.

I started off a number of years ago sending out 3 hour videos, then it went down to 1h 30m and then down to around 45 minutes!

Having a loooooong video doesn't necessarily mean a good video, I personally think that the 45 minute films are so much better, snappier, far more interesting.

If I were to have a wedding video personally, I'd go for the shorter, cinematic version. (Although I appreciate I'm biased!)

    Pete.
