Which Wii game for exercise?

Becca, 15 August, 2009 at 14:36 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 0 10

I am feeling crap about myself having lost most my baby weight, with just the wobbly belly to sort out, and then since returning to work / baby getting going with solids so lots more homecooking, I have put a stone back on - Sob! Portion control and picking is my biggest problem, but I find I am much more controlled about my food when I am exercising too, just struggling to fit in around baby/work/housework/hitching.

I have a running machine, but have had hip / SI joint probs in the past and find that too hard on that aggravates things, can't get out of the house to go to the gym or run, and like a bit of variety (or being able to watch TV when I exercise hence the running machine ?) else I get bored and give up!

I am very goal oriented so something that monitors your progress would be good for me I think.

Wii fit with the board has loads of different activities including yoga etc and is good fun. It also monitors your progress and there is somethign very motivating about when you weigh yourself at the beginning and it says you are overweight and then makes your wii mii fat too!

Alternatively I also get very out of breath playing tennis.

However, I think most of them are general co-ordination/cardio stuff rather than specific stomach areas etc. Would a selection of exercise videos be better where you can target your areas of concern?

Agree about the motivation regarding the fat mii.... I look a right chubster at the minute <sob>

Some people seem to recommend My Fitness Coach which I think is less than a tenner from Amazon...may be worth investigating!

Wii fit is good fun and you can work up a bit of a sweat on a few of the cardio exercises (I love the boxing) and I like the yoga too, but it is still very much a game rather than a fitness programme imo. EA Sports Active is much more of a proper workout programme, I love it, you can set goals for yourself and you can see how many calories you are burning which is fab.

Thanks all. Will have a look at EA Sports and My fitness coach - anyone tried both and would recommend one or the other??

SCKB - If i'd ot exercising when it was just the mummy tummy to sort out I would've been thinking down the lines of a particular abs workout, but unfortunately since I've let all exercise and self control go and put on a stone on top I need some general exercise and find I get fed up of DVDs possibly because I've not got anyone to tell me how hard I'm working compared to last time, encourage me to stick to regularly doing them etc. I have a couple that I might feel like dusting off again if I get back in the habit of exercise again though.

I don't have Fitness Coach but while both get good reviews I felt the Active would be better. I gather the Fitness Coach is more like you would do an exercise dvd iyswim whereas the Active tracks your movements so you know you are doing the exercises properly. That's why I went for that over FC

    Hi everyone

I have been going on my wii fit for 2-3 days per week and been doing an hour - by the end of that Im sweating!

When I first went back on it, it said that I hadnt been on there for 351 days or something (hangs head in shame)!!

Even my wii mii has a fat tummy!

Ive just bought the fitness coach game so will give it a try next week when it arrives, I understand it has 300 excercises including cardio/aerobics - cant wait.

I bought a cross trainer last year and its been standing in my house gathering dust, so need to get on that soon also.

    X

    Thanks for your reply Geminibebe.

It has been nearly 8 weeks since I got my Wii Fit and EA Sports Active, and it has been a bit success!! I am strangely motivated by the fact that the EA trainer knows when I've missed a day, so 95% of the time I'm doing my 30 or so minutes 5 times per week. I think mostly as a result of all that exercise I am being much better about my food intake too (it tells you an estimated calorie total at the end of each session, and it is depressing how 30mins of sweat amounts to maybe 160cals - what's that - 2 bananas? 1 bag of maltesers?!). My biggest change has been cutting down my portions, esp of carbs.

I do like the Wii Fit programme, but find it very time consuming to try to put together an actual workout rather than just playing about on a few exercises, but have heard that there is new software coming out soon to address that with something a bit more like the EA Sports personal trainer idea.

I have so far gone from 11st 10lb down to 10st 13lb, so not far off a stone, yay!
