Which would you choose?

Ashke, 31 August, 2008 at 19:24 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 40

Gah, OH and I can't decide on which pudding to go with for our wedding breakfast. Yes I know WP is -----> but I'll get more sense outta you lot, it's too fluffy over there.

We are having:-

Potato and Leek soup followed by

Roast Rib of Prime Aberdeenshire Beef with Yorkshire Pudding, with seasonal Veg and potatoes.

What would you choose out of this list to go with?

Brioche Bread and Butter Pudding with Vanilla Pod Ice Cream

Rhubarb Crumble Tart with Balsamic Ice Cream

Assiette of Chocolate Desserts
A selection of five chocolate desserts to tempt your taste buds

Hand Made Baileys Irish Cream Cheese Cake with Vanilla Coulis

Crème Brûlée with a Compote of Bitter Sweet Berries

Dark Chocolate Terrine with Orange Segments and Orange Syrup

Baked Lemon Tart with Lime Ice Cream

Selection of French and British Cheeses
(Served with oatcakes and biscuits)

Trio of Puddings
Dark chocolate terrine, lemon profiterole and a Fresh Fruit Tart on Raspberry and Vanilla Coulis

Warm Chocolate Tart with Heather Honey Ice Cream

Warm Chocolate Pudding with Warm Dark Cherry Compote and Macallan Ice Cream

Roast Whole William Pear with Almond Toffee Sauce

Black Cherry and Peach Trifle with Ameratto

Orange Pannacotta with Orange Segments and Drambuie Ice Cream

Coffee Crème Brulee with Chocolate Ice Cream

Roast Whole Peach with Raspberry Puree and Vanilla Ice Cream

Cheers in advance

Jo

I'm not surprised you can't decide - my mouth is watering just reading that.

That was helpful wasn't it ... sorry

They all sound fab ? well apart from the rhubarb thing as rhubarb is food of the devil. especially with it being with vinegar flavoured ice cream

i think as you're having soup and beef which are both filling, i'd go for a lighter desert, maybe one of the creme brulees?

Either the Baileys cheesecake, the selection of 5 chocolate desserts or the baked lemon tart with lime ice cream

They all sound fab ? We had a similar menu when we got married and had a crumble for dessert - it didn't seem too heavy as our meal was late on in the afternoon so everyone was definitely ready for it. It is also quite a traditional dessert so it matched the rest of the meal iyswim.

Otherwise I would go for anything chocolatey ?

I'd have the trio of puddings too.

Several things on there sound absolutely scumptious but as H hates chocolate (and quite a number of other yummy things, very strange boy) I'm very aware that anything else might mean some people don't like/won't eat it. At least with 3 things you've got a fighting chance they'll all like some of it.

Wow, what a list - so much sounds delicious. I think, given your soup and main meal, the desserts that are most complementary are either:

Dark Chocolate Terrine with Orange Segments and Orange Syrup

Baked Lemon Tart with Lime Ice Cream

    Yum!

I think that although some of the others would be higher on my personal choice (the bread and butter pudding sounds yummy) the trio of puds is probably the best option!

    Eek!

so many different answers! Forgot to say the Veg option is "Spicy Butternut Squash risotto with basil and coriander"

I want the creme brulee with berries and OH wants the brioche bread and butter pudding. The wedding is at the start of november (not long to go now ?) and the meal is at about 3pm(ish)...

ho hum, think we'll need to bash it out between us.

Definitely the creme brulee.....the bread and butter stuff would be too heavy after the beef/risotto

I definitely think you need something lighter than bread and butter pudding after those first 2 courses.

I like the thought of Roast Whole Peach with Raspberry Puree and Vanilla Ice Cream, yum!

Failing that, the creme brulee would be an excellent choice.

It'd be the whole roast peach for me ? it thinkit'd be refreshing after the other courses.

As an aside and for Keef's benefit, I had cherry and balsamic ice cream a couple of weeks ago and it was absolutely goooorgeous!

I would personally go for the Assiette of Chocolate Desserts as I'm a complete chocoholic, but the trio of puddings would probably be a better bet as there'll be something for everyone.

Our wedding menu was carrot & coriander soup, melon, roast beef (stuffed with mealie pudding, wrapped in bacon) then chocolate torte.

They all sound lovely but I would avoid anything with dark chocolate as I know a lot of people don't like it.

I know, the list for the main course, not including veg option and the fish course, has 35 items in it!

I'd go with the trio or the 5 chocolate options. That covers two things, you'll have something that everyone will like and they look pretty on the plate. I always think the mixture looks impressive and expensive.

What keef, and then nick said.

Go for the lighter end of the spectrum - creme brule, or maybe cheesecake.

I think you ve made good choices so far. i went to a wedding last week and it was fan of melon ? followed by chicken supreme ? and then fruit salad [double]?. i asked the groom why the food choice was so boring (he s a good mate, thats how we talk to each other) and he said that so many of the brides family had food "issues" (ie fussy twats) that those choices were the only ones they could make to ensure everyone ate ??

I don't envy you. We had loads of fussy guests. My mother was so fussy food wise that she wound up having something different to every other person there. She doesn't eat chicken, pork, un-cremated beef, fish, most vegetables....H wanted to get her a Happy Meal.

I would go with something light. The brulee would be a good option I think as the bread and butter pudding would be too heavy after the beef.

And at the opposite end of the spectrum . . . we even served the delicious Wiltshire gammon to our two Muslim guests - My day, my way.

I would go with the trio - I can't imagine there are many people who would dislike all 3 of them!

    Yummy starter and main course!

    Good god.

i do have one person that doesn't do red meat so the caterer will do one of their chicken dishes for her and are fine with that.

I was a bridesmaid at a wedding a few years ago and we had full turkey dinner for the main course, it was the end of june, I felt it was more like Xmas!? it was a heavy soup too for starters!

Oo - far too many choices! the heather honey icecream sounds fab, as do the lemon profiteroles, the dark choc torte, the 5 choc puddings - gah - i have no idea!

We had roast beef for our wedding too (can't remember the starter, or the veggie option). I threw my one and only bridezilla hissy fit when it came to puddings. I wanted profteroles, my mum said they were too heavy, and that we should go for something lighter, like a lemon creme brulee. We ended up withe veryone having creme brulee, and i had the most enourmous bowl of profiteroles to myself ?
