While idly Google-ing common mispronunciations...

...to see if any others amused me, I came across this in an excerpt from an American book:


Um, does anyone actually pronounce it KLY-tur-is?

    But then again, it isn't a word i use that often! (Not on a daily basis anyway!)

    I can't say it's a word I use on a regular basis, but I don't think I emphasise the cli bit.

    I would definitely stress the first syllable but it wouldn't rhyme with 'try'.

    I never noticed that American's pronounce it cli-TOR-us, until I watched American Pie the other day. It sounds weird and too scientific. I also don't like having my name in the middle of such a rudey place ☹️
