White vs Ivory

Aimelou, 25 January, 2013 at 19:01 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi! I'm looking for a bit of advice about White vs Ivory dresses - Most shops I've been to stock majority of Ivory dresses however I've always thought I'd get married in White ... Am I missing something? Is Ivory the "new White"? Please can someone give me clarity on the White vs Ivory debate? Thank you in advance for your help! x

I was told that ivory is more flattering for most girls. White tends to wash you out, unless you have darker colouring.

As others have said, I think it depends on colouring.

I have a pure white dress but I tend to be a little tanned so my skin doesn't look too washed out. I tried on ivory dresses too but in the end chose style over anything else.

I think it's all down to personal choice but white can be extremely harsh. I only have 1 white gown in the shop and that is mainly to show ladies just how "white" it can be. Many comment that it reminds them of toothpaste!!

The only colouring ive found that suits white perfectly is very pale red hairs with freckles, other skin tones have too much contrast.

There are also variations of ivory, some of them almost white, others almost a buttermilk colour. Most dresses will come with a fabric swatch to show what colours the dresses come in but ive not found one yet that doesnt come in white.

    This!

I found that there were so many different shades of ivory when I was dress shopping. Sometimes I'd pick up a dress thinking it was white and only realised it wasn't when I compared it to other dresses. Some of the stark white dresses can look almost blue depending on the material that the dress is made from. I'd just try a load on and see what suits you rather than worrying about what colour is written on the label.
