Who avoided getting married in 2013?

Chris Giles Photography, 17 May, 2012 at 15:16 Posted on Planning 0 46

I'm getting married, whoop! but not until 2014.

We could of gone for 2013 but decided against it for superstitious reasons.

Now my reason for posting is this. Did you bring forward or push back your wedding to avoid that year? A lot of the couples I met over photos last year said they didn't want to get married in 2013 so thought I'd ask a wider audience. Just out of curiosity. Smiley smile

Absolutely not, it's only a number. We got engaged this March and didn't want a long engagement so set a date of next March. We gave notice on Friday 13th, so far nothing's gone wrong!

    Firstly, Congratulations Smiley smile

Secondly, how many people so far have said "Who's going to take you photo's?" Smiley winking

Thirdly, not even a tiny little bit. Wedding date is 13th October. Couldn't worry me less. Evenif it was a Friday.

On another note and as a tip for Marrieds-to-be in the future. My best mate had his wedding in a castle in italy for 1/3 of the price because it was on September 11th.

    Yes we did!

I do realise it is a silly reason, but my a lot of my family are sea-farers, and no ship has a room 13 etc. So to please them (and secretly ourselves) we decided on 2012. I doubt any of them would have voiced their concern if we had decided on a 2013 date though.

I also liked 2012 because it feels a special year with the diamond jubilee and the olympics, it's a party year! And as we got engaged last year, 2014 seemed like AGES away. But it's coming round quickly!

Good question........... we avoided it and brought it forward to 2012, 2014 was so long to wait as we got engaged 2010. But now I think about it, another year savings would have been good!!!

Nope. When we couldn't get a suitable date in 2012 we just went for the next year, superstition didn't enter our minds. Both my niece & nephew were born on the 13th so its not a negative number in my family.

Good grief no, that would have been cutting off my nose to spite my face! (no offence!)

Regardless of the number 13, I hate odd numbers but for me to be finickity about it with the year or month of wedding would have been ridiculous IMO, I wasn't going to delay getting married for a year just because of that!! We couldn't have got married in 2012 because at the time of setting the date we were both working on the olympics so it wouldn't have been practical, plus we wouldn't have been able to save up in time.

Thanks Smiley smile - Loads of people have asked me about this.

Honestly, I have no idea how to approach that one. Anyone doing spot colour gets the boot instantly.

No, although to be honest I would have preferred to get married this year, that's because I'm impatient, and OH convinced me that we couldn't afford it this year. Never even considered it being an unlucky year.

I did have a friend who bought a new car in 2010 though, and it was one of those deals where you can trade it in for a new one after 3 years, and she was worried about this because it would be a 13 plate (this was in 2010 before she'd bought the first car) which I thought was thinking ahead a bit too much!

    Congratulations!

I was against it at first, I'm another one that is weird about numbers. But OH told me to get a grip and now I realise that it was the best idea to just go with 2013. 2012 was too close, and 2014 felt ages away when we started planning in early 2011.

Spot colour, anything posed, anything cheesy, anything that looks like vaseline has been smeared over it, blown highlights, too much flash....

Thanks for all the responses so far.

I didn't want to get married in 2013 because I always associate 13 with unlucky.

No way! What are you lot gonna do - hide in your room for the whole of 2013 lol? Tbh you only say your wedding anniversary without the year for the rest of your life. I chose my date based on when the time was right for us rather than the number of the date?

I didn't think of that at all!! We are getting married in 2014 but because "our date" falls on a Saturday that year and a Friday in 2013 - also I graduate next year and it gives us more time to save! So 2013 is gonna be the year I graduate (unless superstition dooms me to fail haha) & 2014 I get married - I'm too excited it for it all!!!!

I actually purposely picked 2013!! My parents will have married 25 years next year and my nan and grandad 50 years a week after I get married!

On a less lighthearted note, personally I find it quite shocking that someone would think 2013 brides were tempting fate marrying that year... life's too short to look so deeply into things

    Definatley agree with this.

My life is almost on hold till I'm married, saving so damn hard that we don't get to go out all that often, after the wedding we will look to move house, have a family etc. To consider delaying all that for the sake of a superstition is unthinkable hence my earlier cutting nose off to spite face comment.

Agreed, although I don't think anyone was saying it in all seriousness.

I am having a baby in 2013 (if all goes well)... wasn't going to put that off for the sake of superstition!!

Im sure there are lots and lots of 2013 brides ... that many weddings can't all go wrong!! it's only unlucky if you think of it as that...e.g something could go wrong in any year, if your a 2013 bride surely people aren't going to say oooo it's because of the date!

...we picked 2014 as we can't afford it any earlier! Smiley smile x

Originally we'd planned to get married in 2013 and it didn't really worry me. We ended up going for 2012 as our venue was available on the date we wanted and I'm kind of impatient; I certainly wouldn't have waited until 2014! Although I have a friend won't refuses to get married next year as she is really superstitious.

We brought our wedding forward, we were happy to go with 2013 but my family are VERY superstitious and my mum was really worried about it being in 2013, so we chose december this year instead
