DDiva, 30 November, 2008 at 19:55 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 32

We did today - still dosnt feel like Christmas though !

Although very pleased our new kitten (6 months) has liittle if no interest in them - thought he might be a pain with them, esp climbing the tree......

Nope. Never do it before December. Ours will go up in about two weeks, although my classroom will be decorated at the end of this week so we get a good two weeks of festivity before the hols.

    2. the kitten is lulling you into a false sense of security - soon your tree will be devoid of baubles on the bottom 2'....

We brought everything down from the loft today and it's now all sitting at the back of the lounge.

Boxes and boxes of god knows what and a bloody huge tree! Probably tomorrow and Tuesday will get everything done.

We were supposed to, but I got as far as two garlands over the bookshelves and lost the will to live. One hissy fit later we decided to abandon it.

I haaate having them up this early, I normally put them up the last weekend before Christmas, but Mr K's granny is coming to stay next weekend for an early Christmas, so we have to get them up this week. Friday night I think.

I'm not going to bother this year, just me and the dog and he'll likely knock it over.

    Bah Humbug.

Ours are up now as we are busy for the next few weekends and can't during the week as firstly we would have had to get the tree and my H gets home too late.

We didn't last year either as I was in the UK for most of December, and Mr P for 2 weeks over Christmas.

We were tempted this year, but TBH it's going to be the same thing with us in the UK for 11 days, so probably won't bother. Although I'd really like to, if I'm totally honest.

Wish we could give it a miss. And for dog, read 'ever climbing, duracell bunny of a nearly 2 year old"

No way - it's not even December yet!! If you put them up to early it spoils the feel of Christmas. I'm absolutely desperate to get mine up but I'd feel ridiculous putting them up already. I'll decorate the house a couple of weeks before Christmas day.

They'll go up on the 13th December and come down on the 6th January. 12 days before, 12 days after.

They'll probably go up early next week - would do them this weekend but we're away. We do them early (or so it feels to us, we both have parents that only ever did them the week before Christmas and in MrSC's case not until after the SIL's bday on the 17th) because we go to our families 150 miles away from 24th - 28th, so if we do them too late it's hardly worth it. And I'm not a twelfth night taker-down either, I'm fed up with them by New Year's Day.

Not yet - this weekend or maybe next weekend. Not sure yet. And they'll be down as soon after New Year as I can manage!

that was always my thinking but someone on Hitched, last year I think, said that was all a load of hogwash.

Anyway, we'll probably put ours up next weekend, we're desperate to do it because it'll be the first Christmas MissSun has really known what's happening. We wanted a real tree but looking at the prices of them at the weekend it might have to be the artificial one again.☹️

I don't care if it's hogwash, it's a tradition my nana followed, and one I'm following.

My sister was asking when she should put hers up as it's the first year L will really get Christmas. Her partner wants to put them up today for that reason, and L was so excited when I saw her on Saturday, telling me what she'd like for Christmas. And she showed me Rudolph. He's a reindeer from matalan that stands about 5ft tall. He's fab! ?

How much are the real trees you were looking at? I think we paid about £25 last year from Homebase.

They were lovely, they were Nordman Firs, very soft to touch. They were ranging from about £35 to £50. We don't have that sort of spare cash to spend on something that'll be thrown away in a few weeks time. We were going to have a look in Homebase before finally deciding what to do. With the living room all done I really fancied a real one. We only wanted to spend about £20.

I know what you mean. Ours was huge last year, we had to cut the top off of it! ? I'd rather invest in a good fake tree this year but MrKB wants a real one. It has nothing to do with the fact he can burn it once we're finished with it....oh no...?

Doing mine tonight! Was going to do it yesterday but was a bit hungover!!

Our cats used to sleep in it when they were kittens, but last year, they weren't bothered! Well, not until we started taking it down again!!!

I normally do it the weekend before Christmas but I think this year it will be done on the 14th. At least that is when H will get the tree up. I will pop the baubles on it that evening once the sproglet is in bed or over the next few evenings.

We put ours up on the closest weekend to the 15th. Don't know why, it just feels about right for us.

However, we're quite busy between now and then, so we started sorting out the decorations and pricing up trees yesterday!

No not yet, have to say I'm not feeling Christmasy at all, I reckon we will do by the 15th.

Oh and everyone who made comments about it not being December yesterday, it was the first Sunday in advent so maybe not that unsual to put up the decorations.
