Who has button holes?

warlycarly, 25 March, 2012 at 02:23 Posted on Planning 0 7

I was just looking at button holes, and was wondering who I need to buy 4? is it just the wedding party men? or is it everyone?? Does everyone else buy their own or are we supposed to supply them?

I went to a wedding where they gave every day guest a button hole. Nice touch if you can afford it. We're just sticking to the males in the wedding party though.

My mums a retired florist and she used to make button holes for everyone years ago I remember seeing them all in the colleciton boxes. But I think now days it is up to you. I am only doing bridal party so a grand total of 4!

I have too many men in my close family so I'm just buying for the bridal party.

Mainly the principal guests i.e., Groom, Best Man, FOB, FOG, Ushers if having them. Mums have either corsages or a special buttonhole according to taste. I always advise against having them for everyone but it's purely a matter of choice and budget. A lot of men don't like wearing buttonholes anyway and the ladies who do who are guests rather than main bridal party generally prefer to buy one of their own choice to match their outfit. If buttonholes are provided for all guests, a neutral colour is better so there are no clashes of colour with outfits.

Nowadays most people go with just the wedding party, generally this would be those who are wearing matching suits (assuming you are going down the road of matching!). Back in the day people used to provide for everyone but aside from being costly I find that a bit weird!

The only exception to this for us is that we are also getting one for OH's grandad as we know how much he'll appreciate it.

My partner and I have have deceided that we will only do important people and immediate family, so groom, best man, my witness/maid of honour, ushers, our parents and their partners and grandparents.
