Who is doing your readings?

cford09, 30 April, 2012 at 20:36 Posted on Planning 0 16

As the title says really ladies, just wondering who you have asked to do the readings at your ceremony? And how did you ask them?

I literally can't think of anyone who would feel comfortable doing ours! All of my family are pretty shy and although I think we may be able to convince someone from OH's family, I'd quite like there to be one from both of our sides. And I don't want it to be a case of them feeling like they have to.

The readings I like are quite deep and I know that most of OH's family would laugh at how lovey dovey they are! AARGH!

We're having two of our friends from uni do our two readings. We felt our family were already involved in the day and we wanted to bring in as many people as possible to play a part in it. They have both laughed at the lovey-dovey-ness but they were thrilled and flattered to be asked.

My sister is doing mine - I emailed her the reading and asked her.

If your family are shy could the registrar do the reading for you?

    I read at my sisters

At mine I have asked my best friend (a bridesmaid) and my OH's sister. Luckily both of them are actresses so really it was a no brainer.

I did worry at first that my sis might mind me not returning her gesture of asking me but she was fine about it.

My CBM is doing one and OH's son is doing the other! Just asked them outright but said I wouldn't mind if they didn't feel comfortable doing it!

My best friend/BM will be doing the non-religious one, and OHs grandma is doing the bible one, as she is a big church goer and not really involved in anything else

I've asked my best friend (also one of my bridesmaids) to do one and am planning to ask one of my three closest male friends to do either a reading or a speech during the wedding breakfast.

I asked 1 friend who I was unable to make BM (got 5 already!) and not sure about the other reading as I'm not sure who else would be happy to read where this isn't someone else who might be offended if not asked. I literally asked if they would like to do a reading and explained it was fine if they felt uncomfortable and would prefer not to etc. Good luck! I asked someone who I know reads well, is confident, and (after rolling her eyes when she first sees the mushiness) willl read it sensibly in front of everyone. Good luck!

    Thanks everyone :-)

At first I thought I's ask OH's niece and nephew but they are only 5 and 7. Being kids, they wouldn't be bothered about 'performing' for everyone and it would be really cute, but they are both VERY boisterous and if I'm honest, quite naughty at times. I don't think I could cope with the stress of worrying 'if' they would behave on the day and read nicely. I know this sounds harsh as they are only kids but I don't need anything else adding to the stress level!

What I'd really like if for OH's mum to do it. I'm pretty sure she'd say yes and I'd really like to involve her as she doesn't have a role on the day and they live quite far from us. The only thing this means is that I'm not sure what to do about my mum. I don't want her to think I'm favouring OH's mum over her but I know she is very shy and if I asked her, I wouldn't want her to feel obliged but have her worrying until the wedding day!

To think, I didn't even know about readings until I joined hitch!

My OH's dad is doing one and our eldest son is doing another, but that one is a secret ️?️ I'm expecting a few tears to be shed when he goes up to do his (including from me!) ?

Have you got any friends who could do one for you? Or you could read something yourself?

Hi ladies, total wedding planning/hitched noob here! Is it weird to do a reading yourself? We were thinking of having 'Today I marry my best friend' which would just sound odd if someone else read it I think!
