Who is doing your readings?

Galbear, 3 March, 2016 at 12:45 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hi,

I just wondered who you have all asked to do your readings? Are you specifically asking people outside of the bridal party or only asking those in the bridal party or mixing it up? Would love to hear who you have decided to ask and why.

Thanks! Smiley smile

We've asked my Grandmother as she is very good at public speaking and I'm really close to my grandparents. We've also asked Mil2B so that she feels a little more involved as we felt that we were involving my parents more than his inadvertantly

We are asking 2 of my friends who aren't in the bridal party. I didn't want additional bridesmaids, but I wanted to make them a formal part of the day.

We have asked my brother and my OH's sister to do the readings. We have asked people outside of the bridal party to be witnesses though.

We only had our two friends as guests. I asked my friend to do it but she said she would cry and let her husband do it. He agreed but joked he was second choice! I replied not so much second choice as last resort!

Joking apart he practised etc and on the day he read it beautifully.

It is a good way of giving a non member of the bridal party a role if there is someone else you wish to involve but I think it's fine for anyone to do it.

We have asked two close friends who are unrelated to each other and not part of the bridal party- one male and one female, both chosen because they are big parts of our lives and we wanted them to be 'special' but we didn't want a massive bridal party. We have asked one of our readers husband to sing for us during the signing of the register too- both him and his husband have beautiful voices, one for speaking, the other for singing, so we are making good use of them!! ?

We've asked friends who aren't otherwise part of the wedding, and are thinking of asking another family member (again, someone who isn't already doing something). I see it as a nice way to involve more people who you'd like to be part of the day in some way.

My sister is doing one (she volunteered & said she'd rather do that as she's too old to be bridesmaid! Smiley smile), and we've not decided on the other - it'll be someone who isn't already on bridesmaid / usher etc duties, as we have lots of close friends so want to include as many as possible in the ceremony itself.

I've asked my brother to do one, but I still have to think of someone else, I can only think of my side and I really should choose someone from his family!

I'll be asking one of my close friends who isn't bridesmaid as I couldn't justify five bridesmaids! I'm not sure who to ask for the other one. I may ask OH to pick someone! X

I haven't chosen readings yet but I think I'll ask my bridesmaid to do one and maybe one of his groomsmen. I know you're meant to pick people outside the wedding party but we're not exactly doing things traditionally and I know that both these people would be good at public speaking.

I know I'm having my nan read one and I'm unsure about the other one yet. Maybe my auntie. It's quite tough really as I know I want readings in the ceremony but I don't want just anyone reading them.
