Who is having a veil?

cford09, 11 April, 2012 at 11:21 Posted on Planning 0 16

Hi girls,

Just wondering what everyone is doing about the whole veil situation? I can't decide what to do as it raises so many other questions!

My dress is quite detailed so I wouldn't want to cover it up but it's also the only day of my life I'll ever get to wear a veil!

Mum said she thinks I should have the really short veil so you can see my dress but I only like veils that are waist length or longer. Then there's the issue of do you have it underneath or on top of your hairstyle. I prefer the look of it on top of the hairstyle but then I'd be covering up the expensive do!

I tried one on with my dress and I looked a bit old fashioned, I'm only 23 so I don't know if I'm a bit young for it? But at the same time, would I look too plain without one?

AAARGHHH such a small thing but so many decisions!

I havent 100% decided yet, but if i do have one i will have it underneath my hairstyle and only wear it for ceremony and the following photos and take it off for the breakfast/evening reception.

I think i'm going to have one, just past my shoulders. I'll wear mine in Church but then take it off for the reception.

I am having the same dilemma. I wanted to wear my moms veil but it wont go with my dress. The dress I have found looks amazing with a bird cage veil which I never thought I would try but I am leaning more towards a bird cage veil as I can still wear it during the wedding breakfast by pinning the net part back.

There are some beautiful veils out there but I think its a shame when they cost the money they do and you only get to wear them for part of the day.

I'm exactly the same, reluctant to spend more money on something I'll only have on for an hour! And if I did have one I would take it off but I'd be so scared of messing up my hair!

It sounds silly as I'll be wearing the big white dress but I'm wondering if I'll actually look 'weddingy' without one. My friend got married on Saturday with no veil, nothing in her hair and no necklace, and her gown was a shorter length one. Even though she looked stunning, she looked more like a bridesmaid or guest than the bride...

I was like this and said I didn't want one as we're having a civil wedding next week. But when I tried one on I liked how it looked and felt so I went to Debenhams (Many more respectable retailers out there) and bought on for £40.

I am having a side over the shoulder ponytail with my veil just down the middle not over my face, I am too going to only wear it for the ceremony and pictures but I do feel you need a veil to give a little something extra to the back when your saying your vows as this is what guests will see.

    Good luck

I'm having one - just because my dress is strapless and I'm selfconcious of my back fat (!) but once I've got a few drinks down me I'll be taking it off I think!

Think I'm gonna wear one for the church service then take it off for reception. I've seen a hairstyle that I love so need to find a veil that will compliment my fab hairstyle.

I'm wearing a birdcage veil. I made mine with my mum over the weekend and it took about 10 mins! Looks pretty good too but I think i would be out of my depth with a long one. My dress is short though so a long one would look wrong. I like all veils personally but my OH isn't keen at all. I'm sure whatever you wear will be bridey enough (not like anyone will be left wondering) but a veil does make it that much more traditional

I haven't decided yet either (so sorry not much help!) but if i can find one at the right price (bridal shop quoted £85 for a bum length satin trim veil) then i will most likely wear it for ceremony and some pictures. The hair style i think i want is a lose side bun, so will see at my hair trial if a veil will suit.

Thanks girls, lots of food for thought!

I've been thinking about having a side hairstyle, has anyone tried this with a veil that you'd obviously have to wear centrally? Does it look good?

    - The comb will still hold it for hair thats down

I was debating but decided I am only planning on doing this once and I figure I am more likely to regret not wearing it than if I do. Saying that I am not paying bridal shop prices for one, there are cheaper ones out there. And going to go very light, Kate Middleton esque, so it dosent feel as traditional to me (if that makes sense)

This is something I still havent decided on either!

I want my hair up so think I will have the veil (if I end up having one) coming from the bottom. But this is all subject to change! Need to go trying on veils with a decent hair do I think.

I was completely against a veil as like you my dress is detailed but then I saw this. So I got a fingertip, one tier veil so it just flows down my back.

I'm having a shoulder length one. I'm with the others on here-I'm just going to be wearing mine for the main event ? and I might wear it for part of the reception. I'll see how I feel on the day............
